So.
This month is the month, the month I was planning on buying a new .177 PCP air rifle for field target. I got the budget of $1k saved up, but issue is the rifle I want doesn't seem to be available currently in stock at any Canadian retailer. I even tried contacting Wes and have not yet gotten a response.
I have also been interested in getting, one of those "Derringer" style pistols, apparently there is no license needed and they are not regulated so buying one wouldn't be running afoul of the "handgun freeze" I assume.

I've watched a review from replica air guns, and I have seen that you can also use regular caps (like from toy cap guns) in place of primers as well, so that's a nice cheaper alternatives to buying percussion caps. I see tins of 100 #11 caps going for about $16-$18 Canadian right now. The actual ammo is cheap enough being 4.5mm/.177 so bbs or pellets.
I just wonder, does anyone here have experience with these? Are they worth the almost $500?

Interesting. Mine is a prohibited firearm - My bro made it for me for Christmas in 1973 or 74.
Registered and prohibited although it will not obtain the necessary velocity of 500fps.(using black powder)
I take it this Derringer you are looking at uses just the percussion cap to propel the pellet. Interesting.
I would suggest THAT pistol is not worth $500.00 - not even close. If there is any room to put in some powder
as well as the pellet, it will not remain "non regulated" for long.
As to being historically accurate, I have never seen an original nor a picture of one that looked like this Pedersoli.
I am not saying there never was one. The Italians are usually pretty good at copying original pieces. I do have a Pedersoli
and a Uberti that are very close copies of originals. I have had close copies of original pieces, but from Pedersoli in the past.

Yeah, it's a percussion cap based system, hence why toy caps can also work, as it's just a basic hammer system. As said I've seen "Replica Airguns" review on it.
yeah, I am still trying to figure out if it is worth the purchase price, but I mean a power burning handgun, especially one like this, would be fun to have, as its more a parlor gun than anything., could probably get away with using it inside, seeing how it shoots between high 200-low 300 fps.

It's definitely a novelty, cool, neat, fun, I would like one. I've go a few BB guns that fall into that category. Bought them, had fun for a couple months. Now they sit in the cabinet unused for the last 4 years.
Might want to save your money, add too it. Get a good field target gun in the future. That you would probably use for years too come.

It looks cool and since it makes a bang and fires a projectile it certainly adds to the cool factor.Twiggy wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 11:24 am Yeah, it's a percussion cap based system, hence why toy caps can also work, as it's just a basic hammer system. It is dancing in a bunch of grey areas though... even though it is under 500fps...
manufacturer claims it looks like a real firearm and IS replica.
and It's manufactured recently.

The term "serious injury" is something that can be taken too lightly and has bitten people in court.
I'll just ask the question, can a bb make someone blind and would you consider being blinded a serious injury..
Your blowdart tube can be considered a firearm under Canadian law.
also;
However, they are considered to be firearms under the Criminal Code if they are used to commit a crime. Anyone who uses such an air gun to commit a crime faces the same penalties as someone who uses a regular firearm.
So if you have a bylaw that you can't shoot things in your backyard, neighbour sees you, calls popo,
you will probably face charges along the lines of discharging a prohibited firearm within city property, and since during the act of the crime, it is now considered a prohibited firearm, they toss in unsafe storage too.
Not to mention the 20 cop cars surrounding your house.
Is it worth it? That is upto you,
lol I would not consider a Babe Ruth baseball card worth anything more than a beer coaster but people would hand over their bank account for them.
If you have the spare $$ and always wanted something like that,
Life us too short! Get it but treat it like a prohibited firearm and don't let any Liberals find out about it or it will be on an OIC.

Blow Guns are prohibited weapons or "devices" in Canada.

Ahh that's why we went to paper straws,
didn't want the kids connecting 5 McDonalds straws together and taking down an Elk or robbing a bank.
Put that bic pen away, 1 spitball can get you 20 years.
Seems like half my childhood toys are now prohibited in Canada.
Apparently squirt guns are considered weapons now too...

So please talk to your kids about checking line of fire with those Assault Style Super Soakers.
They should never have recalled the original lawn darts,
in my day they were part of natural selection to get rid of the stupid kids,
now they are surviving and going into politics.
Some of these replicas are looking nice, would look great as a wall display.
Or even old blackpowders or flintlocks... love to have some of them on the wall.
But due to current policies it's possible you may face charges if they ever got stolen or someone got scared.
Just for looking like something.
When police are not sure of common sense, they lay charges for the courts to figure it out.
Re: Pedersoli Derringer Guardian #11 Pearl Grip
I'll have to see.
However, from my understanding by-laws do not carry criminal penalties as they are not criminal code offences - not criminal laws. That's why by-law consequences are usually things like fines, and what not. So I am not sure it would be considered in commission of a crime, breaking a no-discharge by-law.
I may be wrong, I'll look this up, but from my current understanding breaking a by-law is not a crime.
Edit: Seems I was wrong, "Municipal bylaws are often enforceable through the public justice system, and offenders can be charged with a criminal offence for breach of a bylaw." Too many goddamn laws everywhere - but I guess that's what you get when you have people in your population that generally can't control themselves and people who can't think with sense, they ruin it for the rest of us.

I hear ya, it's right scary. Couple minor details sets off a domino effect.
People and police perception in Canada with firearms has gone they way of people screaming witch in the old days.
