Progress report on Crosman breach

#1 Post by DoctorFrankengun »

I think that I have come up with a unique breach idea for the Crosman guns. My goal was to eliminate that pesky little hold down screw in the bolt slot. I got it all back together today and test fired it. It has got lots of snap.

Here is an overall view..........

No screw here..........

This is what holds it together................

I made changes so that the loading bolt no longer cocks the gun. It now cocks like a Cooey 22.
In this photo you can see that I still need to make a plug for the back of the loading bolt chamber and a proper cocking bolt.

The is the most unique Crosman 22XX breech I have seen.
No chance of knocking the breech and barrel out of alignment.
Great idea and excellent work. 8)
Even have a nice bronze sleeve for smoother bolt operation. 8)

Here are a few photos that I took during constuction. I started with a piece of 3/4" aluminium shaft. As I don't have the equipment required to bore it straight through I drilled it from both ends, reamed it to barrel size, and then cut out the middle with a roundnose endmill. A sleave was then made for the loading bolt.

Here is what it looks like from the bottom with the barrel instaled.........

Wow! A fair bit of machining. Nice job. 8)
Looks like a lot of distance between the bolt/clamp down points and the port. You might want to put back the little 4-48 screw to keep the port bushing clamp down tight.

Wow looks great!!! Wish I had one of them things. I remember I mentioned i wanted to make one myself. But I really don't have the tools. Say how much would you charge to make on of them breeches?

thats a nice piece. i wish some of us were at the crosman meeting wher they desided to put that little bolt in the breach . there would have been some sore asses . and may be the next day you could kik them again for the crappy cocking bolt that will fal apart .

some very neet stuff .alot of stuff looks like my fathers shop . but a bit smaller . he has the same shaper (i think) but with a 36'' stroke and the same old drill press that has the over head line belts .
what is the lathe that runs behind the wood lathe? it is an odd looking rig . is it for a special perpose.

It is home built. I found that I needed a small machine that would be handy for little parts so I built one.
