Just a quick note...on the 10"x10" utility box I use a magnet to hold the paper targets in place....

sirjeigo this is an authorized copy of the original if you just want to buy one.

It looks very nice and worth checking out. 8)

Like parker_101_ I made one from a 12"x12"x6" deep electrical junction box and 16 - 1 lb. packages of duct seal that I got from a local electrical supplier. I bought a handle from a local hardware store and some paper clasps with magnetic bases from Staples. Your high power guns will likely need two layers of duct seal rather than one and that is what I planned for but you could try one layer to start and see how it goes. I still need two more packs of duct seal to finish mine off.

All told mine cost me $105.

I already have a steele pellet trap for .22 rimfire. Can I convert it into a silent one by just adding this electrical putty?

I am not sure what the .22 rim fire traps are designed like but I think you should be able to make a silent trap out of it by adding the duct seal to the back of the trap. The duct seal will stick to just about anything and it is like putty so you can mold it if you need to. Even if the back of the trap is slanted you should be able to get the duct seal to hold in place. Put the seal in the trap anywhere a pellet can directly hit. If the back of the trap is flat and vertical all the better. If it is not maybe you can add a piece of plywood and attach the duct seal to it. I would clean out any dust and debris to give the duct seal a clean surface to stick to.

I went to a few Home depot's and couldn't find any Duct seal and the staff there looked at me like I had 3 eyes when I asked if they knew, I thought what about plumbers putty the label reads " Stainless, caulking and sealing compound, will not crack seperate, crumble, harden, shrink"

"all ingredients are non-hazardous"

any reason why I shouldn't use this for my silent trap?, 5lbs was like $12.95.

It's in the Electrical section. It's usually a very small display....The Home Depot in North Whitby has them on the very bottom shelf, near the end of the aisle where the plugs and switches are. I think the duct seal is by the continuity testers, look down. There were about about 10 sticks, they're grey and wrapped in wax paper.....kinda looks like a pack of C4 (like in the movies). The elctrical guys there should know what it is.

Figures, you know they are construction experts...

I got some at Rona and it was a couple bucks cheaper.

That is exactly right, they must lay out the HDs in this region (or all of them??) much the same way. Right near the floor, end of an electrical aisle. The ones I got were wrapped in thick clear plastic but that was a while ago, does kinda look like C4...too bad it isn't... oops... Unlike the plumber's putty, this stuff never hardens, it always remains pliant, you want that. If you ask at HD, they will probably always lead you to the plumber's stuff. Try again, they have the right stuff. Though that putty you mention may be a little different if they say it doesn't harden either...

Idiots...they opened a new Rona in Whitby, and they have a HD there already. There's no building supply place at all in Pickering, and it's bigger than Whitby... I guess Whitby is kinda central for Rona competing with the HDs from Ajax to Oshawa, probably why. They have been planning to build a HD at the end of my street for years, I can hardly wait, but no digging yet...

thx guys, I guess I just missed it some how, I'll give the plumbers putty a shot, or 10, and see as I've already bought 10lbs of it.

The only thing so far is that "playdoe" smell, does the duct seal have the same smell? for the effort it takes I might just make 2 one with each.

Compare the two before you buy.

I'm using plumber's putty now (installing a sink basket). It doesn't feel as dense as duct seal. I don't think it's going to stand up to the abuse of pellets as much as duct seal will...IMO.

I also piked up a tub of plumbers putty and it isn't that bad...the smell goes away after 3 days and its soft enough to catch slingshot marbles and bbs yet it can still catch the normal ammo for quite a long time but after 500 fps you need a very thick layer.

I don't have my pal as of yet so its not a worry.

I haven't build the trap yet (doing so on the weekend) I will post a review with pix of penetration and such. I will only be hitting it with my AM77 and Elite II unless my qb78d arrives from sniper before the weekend.

I will go take another look for the duct seal payday (being broke sucks, lol)

Here is the silent trap I built using Plumbers Putty ( right now its 3/4 of an inch thick over a 9" x 11 3/4" (insides) area, I plan to double the thickness then try it with my new QB78d in .22.

Image

I hit it with my AM77 with a 7.9 pointed (unknown make).

Image

Then with my Elite II .177 BB.

Image

Anyone know what this pellet is?? The one on the right is the one from the trap.

Image

And finally the QB78d .22

And the hole

Hi, I am new here, and just got directed to your post here from 2 years ago. I just had to tell you, I love that target picture of the goundhog!! It reminded me of pictures of that other rodent Che Guevera of Cuba :) Thanks for the pics of the pellets as well.
