My new and very old unknown rifle

#1 Post by ral_jiktar »

ok, so I was at my boyfriends house nad he menions he found something of his dad back when his parents where living together.

an old airgun rifle.

it's in still prety good shape, but the other metal is a bit rusted, but not by alot, just small specles of rust.

the stock is still in amazing shape at the expence of the but with is a bit worn out.

the barrel might need a bit of polishing, it has some dust/dirt in it.

I have't fired it yet, I did cock it a few times and try out the feel, has a hefty recoil and bang and is quite easy to cock also.

but my real question is, What kind of gun is it?

I looked arround on it, but found only one marking "Marla 45800", No safty arning, no logo, no nothing else ecept for these deep lines across wich seem to have been machine made.

so I head to google but get nothing to tell e what it is, seems the marla might have been an engraving, maybe the name of the gun? since his dad did go in the military and I know some folks there give there guns names. and the 45800 must be the searial code.

there are no plastic parts at all on this thing, even the sight is full metal. another odd feature is the lack of a safety, this thing has no safety what so ever. a few other things I noticedis that there is no scope mount or any way to put a scope, no rail, no holes, and no clips.

when cocking the barrel a quick thing you notice is the surrounding on the hole where you load it is leather, heavily worn leather in fact.

it uses .177 caliber bullets, and the barrel is rifled. and from what my boyfriend says the rifle has been in the shed for a couple of years, he also found some crosman match Pellets with it, it's a silver coloured tin much smaller than those I commonly see, a pack of 500, with the barcode on top of it a,d the labels are stickers an no simply the tin themselves.

anyhow, I'll post about my firring tommororw and tell yah how it handles.

and if somebody can identify it, it would be pretty sweet.

well I went out and did a bit of shotting yesterday, I place a 8x11 peice of papaer, so I have myself a nice 35feet range. after 10 shots I decided to check out my shots to *gasp* my paper has no holes!

so I do the same but at 20 feet and once again my papaer has a single hole.

I starting woundering if it's not me who's lost my aim, so I whip out my 2240 and fire away and get 5 shots in the bullseye at 20 feet.

I take the marla and place it a few inces over the ground to see a bullet fly out and leave a mark in the ground, so it still fires and also with considerable force.

but it won't aim for litter.

anyhow, it was -15 that day, so I wasn't up to adjusting it all day in the sub zero tempatures. today is alittle warmer, so I'm gona mount in on the table and adjust the iton sight on it. until I het it right, I'm also gona clean and relube the barrel and parts.

but I'm sure it can easily be recovered it's still is great shape.

A word of encouragement.......from time to time I've had to adjust the sites on both the Marla and the Jelly .....the elevation is a simple adjustment with a screw driver.... the front sites I adjust with a small hammer and a small wood dowel to move it right or left depending on the POI... ....a drop of locktite on the groove can help keep it where you set it ‎{originally these rifles came with front site hoods ....both of which are missing on my rifles}‎......Good news is after setting the sites both these rifles are tack drivers at 30'.....

thanks, I was expecting to be told to leave for what I posted. thanks for not living in the medvial days XD

anyhow, I brought the gun back to my ex, told him i wasn't really interested, i spent about 2 hours hammering away at the sight only to realize it was rusted in place, so it was permanatly off to the left.

kinda icky to be honest.

Hello,

registered for maybe two minutes and here`s my first post.

It`s a Telly for sure, i`ve had one for some years till i ggave it to the boy nextdoor. No brandname anywhere, the typical stock. No scoperails too.
Lots of Telly guns have two main springs. Telly used to put two of those in there.
Take a look at www.chambers gunmakers, there`s a drawing of this one.

Roel
Hey ho let`s go shooting!!

btw It isn't realy good for this kind of gun to be fired without a pellet in it, it can damage the internal workings.
