Re: Crosman 1077 vs. Crossman Backpacker?
Having shot both those gun models I have to say they both have very good accuracy.....the better of the two right out of the box I'd have to go with the Backpacker......IMHO......gamerule9 wrote:How accurate is the Crosman Backpacker? and How accurate is the Crosman 1077. Which is better of the 2

They are very different guns, so which one is better will depend partialy on what you intend to do with it.
Here is the Review Center air rifle section.

you can get the 1077 in canada without PAL....It has been detuned for the canadian market......gamerule9 wrote:some plinking and alot of birds and some gophers.... I do not have my PAL so the crossman backpacker is at so 495 so thats ok i don't need a pal for that but the 1077 i can't get damn PAL to high of fps

Well if you're gona kill stuff the Backpacker is probably better...
A 14 grain .22 calibe pellet going 500 fps is going to do more damage then a 8 grain .177 cal pellet going ~600 anyway.
Waaay more if the 1077 is detuned to 500 as well.
If you assume 500 fps with average weight pellets for the calibre:
Backpacker: 14.3 grains - 7.75 foot pounds of energy (10.5 joules)
1077: 7.9 grains - 4.2 fpe (5.8 joules)

its a really close call but id say my 1077 is way more accurate then my 2289, but for stopping power and damge id say 2289 wins that one in a heart beat..the 2289 is accurate but i have had more time on my 1077 and i can clear the center of the target with and without a scope on my 1077 with only 2 clips and my grouping is really freaking tight with the 1077...my 2289 on the other hand has nice grouping but the sites are not as good on the 2289 compared to the 1077.. mind you i just got my steel breech on my 2289 and a red dot so ill give another opnion after i have had a chance shoot it more with the red dot on it...
I would give 1077 accuracy a 10, and 2289 an 8.
If you're doing target shooting and plinking, perhaps it's better to get
the 1077, no pumping is required, cheaper pellets, nice repeater semi-
auto double action, very accurate, power can mod.
If you're going to hunt, then 2289 perhaps is good, alot of work to get
one shot, quite a bit of work to mod to get more power and then got
to do more pumping.
1 shot from 2289 = 24 shots from 1077 .... or more if you buy extra mags

I had two 1077 and had to returned both co2 leak.
I had my 2289 since November 2002 and 1621 shots with no problem at all.
The 1077 was fun to use but low power.
The 2289 with ten pump i get 450 fps with .22 Copperhead Pellets.
Both are accurate at 33' with a scope.
Ho yes co2 does not work well in cold Canadian weather.
