Pellet Questions

i just bought some Beeman Hollowpoint Pellets .177 and would these kill better than say pointed or wadcutter?

and also how do you determain how many grains a pellet is?

To answer question A)

A hollowpoint will do a lot more damage then those others you mentioned because of expansion. It will be a much greater shock to the tissue in your target as it transfers more energy to the target in its expanded state. A pointed head pellet will not expand as much and might actually "ice pick" right through the target (go in one ear and out the other :P).

To answer question B)

Download this program, it has the weight in grains for many pellets, as well as trajectory and lots of other cool stuff.

Are those the gold coated HP's? If so, they are quite hard and don't really start to expand much until over the 600fps range. I agree with Webstien generally though, but I think the RWS HP's are softer and will expand more at lower velocities, and they are probably less expensive aswell. HTH,
