scuba tank for pcp question

#1 Post by canshooter »

Can any scuba tank be used to fill a pcp rifle providing I get the correct adapters? I know that the tank has to have been hydrostatically tested within the last 5 years but is there anything else to know?

Also am I better off with a steel tank for the higher psi they are rated to, or will an aluminum tank suffice.

Thanks for any help guys!

Yes, of course, scuba tank is what most people use to fill their PCP rifle in Europe that I know at the UK airgun forum. Here in Canada I heard that you have to be a member of scuba club to get it refill, not 100% sure. Currently I have 4 PCP rifles and still using Hill MK2 pump to fill them up, alot of excercise. Good for the tricept and bicept ...lol..
I'm considering getting the HPA compressor, the ony problem is the good one from Bauer is about 3300 USD and the price goes up from there on the higer up model. There is another make which is much smaller start about 500 USD.

I already talked to the owner of the local scuba shop. As long as the tank has been hydrostatically tested within 5 years and passes visual inspection he will fill it for $6.00. It seems the most cost effective solution...if I can find a suitable used tank for $100.00 or so.

Our club has an understanding with a local dive shop . The problem would be getting a fill from dive shops you dont know . I use an Alum tank , with a 200 bar DIN adapter . I just asked for the same package previously sold to other club members . You deffinatly need a carry handle for your tank .

need a scuba licence...

hello,

I have a PADI licence (scuba licence) and as far as I know you need to show it to fill your tanks - I'm always asked. As they say, they'll sell you all the gear, just not the air...

But hey, if you know a fellow who will fill it, go for it.

Thanks Parker for the Vid, it looks even easier than refilling
my co2 bottle from the 50 pounder.

My goal is to get the compressor and refill directly to the gun or
my own scuba tank.
