After one year and 6000 shots of great shooting performance, my Weihrauch WH 40 PCA is giving me problems. It occasionally refuses to fire, even with the trigger pulled all the way through. Repeatedly pulling the trigger usually gets rid of the shot, a few times I had to remove the grip cover to help the trigger along. Aside from being annoying, obviously it is also a safety concern. I habe sprayed a small amount of white grease on the trigger mechanism, and I have set the trigger to a slightly harder pull, to no avail. Is anyone familiar with this problem and has a solution?

Thank you for your advice, Aaron. However:
the trigger mechanism is very clean. I do no see how lead dust could get into the trigger mechanism, anyway. Just as an unrelated aside, I wash all my pellets and lightly oil them prior to use.
So, hello all you experienced air shooters, I am still at a loss!

I'm shocked that Todd Cooper hasn't chimed in on this post. I don't have an HW40, but I do have the Marksman 2004 so I have a very similar pistol to yours.
Here's a link to Todd's review, it has lots of good info and pics;

Just after I mailed my HW40 PCA off to D&L Airgun, I received this comment from Todd Cooper, whom I had contacted through his informative website www.my.tbaytel.net/coopers
'My HW40 has never experienced that problem with more than 20,000 shots BUT I have heard of it happening to others. The M-2004 (Chinese HW40 clone) seems to suffer from that problem very often. Owners of these pistols have said to take the trigger parts out and carefully polish off any burrs or rough spots then relube with moly paste and re-assemble. Something is obviously hanging up inside the grip panel. I'm thinking it could be the hammer hanging up. It's also possible that your hammer spring is getting tired. Mine broke after 5 years (20,000 shots). My HW40 is now 6.5 years old and shooting fine.'
And this came today from D&L Airgun:
'The Weihrauch parts are in your gun and it is ready to go back.
I was not able to get your gun to misfire when it came in but I see that one of the parts that Weihrauch sent us is made a little different than the one I took out so I hope this will take care of any problem that was showing up intermittently'.
I am sharing this information because we all want to be more competent at maintaining our favourite toys. Many thanks to all who responded to my inquiry. D&L Airgun was very responsive, as usual; thank you, John.
Everyone have a great new year.

Hi Ozzie,
Thanks for posting my information.
My replacement HW40 hammer spring was slightly different than the original spring. The coiled center on this hairpin spring is tighter in the new replacement version. I don't know if this makes a difference but this might be what D&L was referring to when they mentioned a different looking part.
Another thing to look for in the malfunctioning HW40 is a dry valve stem. A drop of lube on the stem might help movement. Also look for any jagged edges on the inside of the frame where the spring or hammer might hang up. The firing mechanism is not too complicated. The spring must be strong enough and the hammer must not hang up on anything when moving.
Ozzie... please keep me updated as to how your HW40 functions.
Thanks,
Todd

I Got the same problem on my HW40, only 2 months old and about 500 shots. Now it won't shoot. It's pumped and loaded but won't shoot. I noticed there's an Allen screw on the grip, is it safe to remove that to get to the firing mechanism. I'll have to be careful since its loaded.

Remove the screw on the right side of grip. You can view pics of the guts here. Check hammer spring and hammer when you get it open.
