Vintage Crossman Pelgun mod 162 Help....

#1 Post by On/Scene Tactical »

Hey Guys...

Have a friend who needs some help with his vintage Crossman model 162..
He would like to find a Tuner who can do an overhaul on his gun..
Gun is in excellent condition, has nothing mechanically wrong with it,, other than it leaks a little....

What we would like to do is keep the rifle in it's basically original condition, however do a mod on it ,,so it will accept either a power source powerlet, modified through the end cap,, or possibly a small paintball cylinder strapped to the side...

I kind of like the paintball cylinder idea, as this fellow is kind of strapped for cash,,and I think in the long run it will be cheaper to refull a cylinder than to buy air source powerlets...Kind of kind sonic's 2240 mod...

So any thoughts on what would be the best way to go about this ??

Where can we get parts ??

Need an endcap and hose fitting, and a regulator at the very least to do a bulk cylinder fill,, or an endcap and a fitting for a Air Source powerlet is another option...

A seal overhaul I think is the first step to bring it back to original,, then we can do some type of mod to it..

Does anyone know a good Crossman tuner in S.Western Ont ??

Any help would be very much appreciated...

First of all since the airgun is vintage why would you want to modify it? Maybe if you tell your local gun smith (if you have one) what you want to do then maybe they can do it for you if they do that kind of thing. I'm still not sure why you would want to modify such a vintage airgun? By the way I'm also from southern ontario and was wondering where Harrow might be?

Vintage airguns can be modified as long as the mods are reversible so as not to cause damage and ruin their collectibility and value.

I, also, would like to know who can restore and refinish vintage airguns here in Canada. There are many sources in the States, but I"m not terribly crazy about sending complete and valuable airguns back and forth over the border.

Hey RM...

Well any mods to the gun that would be made are removeable, and the gun would be returned back to it's original state..
So Nothing can be modified,, except for the end gas cap to either accept AirSource poerlets or a bulk bottle,,or even a bulk fill adapter...
Basically nothing will be changed other than the cap...

A tuneup would be a normasl part of keeping the rifle in good condition and working.

As far as Harrow is concerned..
I'm about 30 mins from Windsor, about 2 km from Lake Erie, and about 30 minutes from Point Pelee..

I restore my vintage airguns myself. In all honesty I would never trust a gun smith with any of my guns new or old. Even if one of my airguns break and it has a warranty I still fix it myself.

Well I guess as long as the mod doesn't affect the value and can be reversed it's ok. Thanks for telling me where Harrow is. I hadn't even heard of it till now. lol.

Hey RM..

The only thing wrong with the gun is it leaks a little air somewhere., can onlt be a couple of places I guess..

If I had to guess it would be the valve..Spring probably needs replacing...

Hi Eric,

If it's start leaking as soon as you install the co2, it could leaks from
valve body o-ring or something is jam or broken seal on the valve stem.

If it's start leaking after taking a shot or more, the problem would be
on the valve stem seal.

I guess that's about it on that gun.

I find that in most air valves it's usually one of the o-rings is bad. Sometimes it's the valve stem but very seldom. Seldom for me to have that problem anyway.

Hey RM...

Well this air rifle is probably 30-35 years old..
I believe that he has replaced some of the O-rings,, however it still didn't solve the problem....

I hear there is a Crosman forum somewhere..
Does anyone know where it is ??

Still looking for a good Airsmith as well...

Did you happen to view this topic with all the favourite links? The Crosman forum is listed there.

http://www.airgunforum.ca/forum/viewtopic.82.html

Perhaps a better forum to discuss vintage airguns is the American Vintage Airgun Forum.
