Competition target shooting

#1 Post by pellet head »

Thinking of getting into competition shooting but I have no idea what the requirements are or how to get involved. Anyone have any info? What would be a good entry level rifle for this sport?

Thanks

Here is the place to fine what you are looking for: http://www.targetshooting.ca/

A TAU7 pistol or TAU200 rifle are excellent, inexpensive entry level 10m target guns that meet ISSF rules to get you started.

we do private competitions at least a couple times a week.
usually upto 5 guys, the bet is $ 5 per-person per-session.
process elimination, 20 yards, target 1" circle or powerlets,
open sights only. We use mostly 2240/2250/QB78/cr622.
The highest one person ever took home was $ 200.00 .
It's always alot of fun.

Sounds like a lot of fun. Wish I could find some people around where I am that do this.

For a pistol I'd recommend the faithfull Izzy . If you post a question over at Target Shooting Canada , you can probably get a line on a club near you . Guys at clubs might be able to steer you to a sharp deal on a good single stroke pneumatic . You might be able to find a junior who is in the process of upgrading to PCP . My reasoning in recommending the Izzy over the Tau , is that Tau users are often refilling their CO2 during a match . A new shooter doesn't need any distractions . The Izzy is accurate as hell , simple and solid . It will shoot well along side many much more expensive guns .

A good club will shorten up your learning curve , and save you huge amounts of frustration .

It’s too bad there are not more enthusiasts that can be found in the Winnipeg area. It at least seems they are not reading or belong to any related AG forums.

I’m doing my part with trying to expose my hardware to fellow workers and friends. So far it seems to bring back memories of youth with most people. Along with comments about the difference between newer adult rifles vs their childhood toys.

With winter upon us and nowhere to go, I’ll have to continue the “sell jobâ€Â

Phoning the firearms directors of the clubs in your area might get a line on a club with a nest of airgun freaks . Help from expert shooters is very valuable . If you dont find a club , you risk becomming a king of the basement , rather than a competitor . Without good advice you run the risk of wasting a lot of time / monet exploring blind alleys .

I was talking to one of the firearms guys at SIR today and he said he knows that there is a club of some sort in Winnipeg, but has no idea where. He asked a few other guys and they had no ideas either. He didn't even know they had aperture sights for airguns because he has never heard of anyone coming in and asking.

Try to find a shooting club/range near you and see if anyone shoots competatively. Airguns can be shot indoors at home so I think many people who shoot powder would also have/shoot air as well because they can practice at home with it. The club I shoot at owns several 10m rifles and pistols and there are many airgunners here. I shoot 10m air pistol and its a lot of fun and Im sure you'll like it!

Check out the targetshooting.ca website. There's alot of good info there.

Don't forget about the free Postal Matches. The HighNoon is a good one.
