Problems with New Slavia 631

#1 Post by qb »

I'm a newbie by the way.Only experience I've had was with a Slavia 630, when I was a teenager. The rifle was quiet and it could consistantly hit a pop can at 35-40 yards (iron sights) all day.

Just picked up a new Slavia 631.(from Home Hardware) today.
Put about 150 pellets thru her.

1)She has quite the pronounced TWANG!!(the old 630 was extremely quiet, almost silent ) and accuracy seems to be less then I remember(with 630).

2)Right out of the box it was shooting 2 inches high and 1.5 inches to the right. I was shooting 8 meters(book said factory sighted for 10m) and I can't seem to get the sight , elevation down to the right spot. I keep adjusting and it does't seem to move the point of impact? (windage I was able to adjust).Maybe I'm shooting to close and the sight is at it's limits.

Ammo used DIABLO pointed tip, the only pellets the store had.

I've never taken an air rifle apart before. Don't know about where to lube or oil? I don't know what kind of lube or oil to use?Where or what kind to buy?

I hope I don't have to return this rifle. I've got 30 days to figure this out. With alot of help, I hope.
Please. I need help!!!!!!!

CZ Slavia air rifles come pretty dry out of the box with no lube or very little lube on the spring. I have a 631 and heres what you do. Take your time take it apart very carefully so you don't wreck anything. Buy either moly lube or superlube. Superlube works much better. you can get it at NAPA (National Auto Parts Association). Put some lube on the spring make sure you lube it good but not too much or too little. You will will be able to tell if you have put too much on it. Then put some oil on the inside of the reciever and your good to go. You should be averaging about 630fps when your done. My 631 goes half way through a 2x4 from 15 feet. So they are pretty powerful rifles.

To reduce the twang even more, wrap the spring guide with a bit of electrical tape...just to insulate it a bit. It's a bit of a ghetto trick but it works.

try using some different types of pellets like crosman wads and so on or even a different brand of pointed pellets its makes a big difference when you use pellets the gun likes... also whats the crown look like on the muzzle that will greatley affect accuracy as well ,,,,also to tight or to lose fitting of pellets in the breech well go for being bad or good as well....

I found the most effective way to de-twang the CZ's is to custom size the guide. The guide is just rolled up sheet metal, find the split and carefully spread the gap until it is a nice snug fit in the spring. Lube the guide, spring ends and the outside of the spring, and if you go so far as removing the piston apply a small smear of moly around the front(just behind the seal)and rear of the piston. Use a mix of moly and pellgunoil to lube the pivot points in the cocking linkage. To further smooth things out you can smooth out the spring ends, and polish the piston and quide before lubing and reassembling. I did this to both my 630 and 631 and they are super smooth and very quiet.
Try some different pellets to see if they shoot better, and give the bore a good cleaning. Both of my guns barrels were gross with preserving gunk. Neither rifle seems to be fussy about what ammo is used, but JSB Exacts and Schaks work the best in mine. HTH,

MOLY??

#6 Post by qb »

NAPA was closed.
I went to Canadian Tire and bought a grease tube of Motomaster" Moly- Extreme Pressure Grease.
Can I use this stuff to lube the main spring.? or Can you suggest another kind I could buy?

Yes you can use that to lube the main spring and the piston. But that moly lube from canadian doesn't really have a high concentration of moly only about 3%. All that moly lube is, is just graphite grease. So keep your tube of the moly you bought and go out and buy some graphite powder that comes in a sqeeze tube. Then scoop some moly grease into a seprate container and mix it with the graphite powder until the moly lube turns totally pitch black. I know that the moly lube is already black but when you mix it with the graphite powder you will know what I'm talking about.
