can a springer pistol be tuned up todo large velocities?

This is the place to talk about everything airgun related including air rifles, air pistols, pellet guns, pcp airguns and more.

If you want something that will jump out of your hands when you shoot it, then ya lol

most spring pistols can't do alot better in .22 . if it was to get 500 f/s then thats the best youl get . it does depend on the barrel length and piston stroke and spring . you can port it bigger .

................LOL....................

hahaha .... it's funny I just thought about my friend when first time firing
his S&W magnum at BRRC, the marshall told him to move back because
it will hit the ceiling of the windows opening .........lol....... and sure enough
the gun kicked up quite a bit ...

I think JezX is right porting is way to go. Perhaps how about using HW45 ...
It'll be expensive project if it's doesn't work .....

Putting in an excessivley large spring might buy you a few more FPS , but will more likley vibrate excessivley , and destroy your accuracy . Induced dieseling will get you a few more FPS at a long term detriment to your gun . A good springer is mostly an exercise in engineering balance . Cleaning , proper seals , and good lubrication are your best /safest bet .

Best tuned conventional springer can produce 1 Joule per 2.3-2.5 cubic centimeters of the compressor volume.
Calculate your compressor volume and you'll see how much you can theoretically add.

More spring doesn't always give more velocity in pistols. I once tested a friend's Tempest with a dual spring that was very difficult to cock. The added spring tension gave no more velocity then an untuned pistol. The stroke volume has a lot to do with output. You can find the details at my web site (Other reviews).

The .22 caliber Weihrauch HW45 springer pistol is about as good as it gets for power. A healthy shooting HW45 will do about 6 FPE. Mine did that when new. I got 5.74 FPE a couple of days ago using 14.5gr H&N FTT.

If you want more pistol power then consider a CO2 or PCP with a 10"-12" barrel. This length will give you reasonable output in a package that still resembles a pistol. The downfall of the CO2 airgun is the temperature sensitivity found in many models. The PCP might be a better bet for cold temps. If you stick to 495fps you will stay within legal limits.
