When you say high velocities do you mean high velocities for a pistol or high velocities in general?

Arron, I took my Crossman 38t several times with me Woodcock hunting and I shot 10 or so woodcocks with it. I don't know if you have ever done any woodcock hunting but when you scare them up while bush walking there is nearly always 1 or 2 that don't fly, so what I would do is take my 38t out of it;s holster and scour the ground carefully with out moving my feet. There was plenty of power in the 38t to kill with out over kill if I was to use the 20guage I would be carrying. So I guess depending on how close or what type of small game you want to shooot, A 38t co2 works great for woodcocks.

is there an inexpensive springer that i can mod to shoot .22's (maybe .177's) at high v elovity?

i was thinking of the quest with a new spring, but is ther anything in .22?

Killer-B has a powerful PCP pistol for hunting. Check out the hunting section for the picture.

How about an air-arm S410 TDR

Not multi pump, CO2 or PCP?
That leaves you only springer or SSP pistols.

A HW45 is a powerful springer pistol. Excellent quality and compact.
A IZH46M is a powerful SSP. Mine shoot JSB SCHaK wadcutters at 490fps. Not too shabby in power. On top of that, it is a match pistol with great trigger and accuracy.

The HW45 is the only airpistol I know of thats not multi pump or CO2 or PCP that can shoot over 500 fps.
I am very happy with mine in .22 Cal.

Well, a lot of people will dispute this but how about a Xisico B3 with the stock folded.

Be a bit cautious about high velocity , you could be headed for legal problems . If you are not carefull you could in advertantly end up with a restricted or prohibited weapon . As far as out of the box springers go , the HW45 is about the best for your requirements .Quite a few fellas have used them for the odd partridge or rabbit . Bear in mind that our friend Killere Bee is in the States , that pistol of his would be a restricted weapon here , you would need a restricted PAL , and an ATT ( not likley to cover you for plinking or small game hunting ) .

Not trying to be a killjoy , just trying to point out possible pitfalls .
