Visisted Illingworth's today...

#1 Post by Mulby »

and brough home an HW50s in .177cal. What a sweet little rifle! Shoots alot smoother than I expected and very accurate from the start, no dieseling or smoke. I'll be letting it wear in a bit before doing any serious testing for accuracy, pellet preference, or power, but so far it's doing really well with Exacts 4.52. I'm going to try it with Schaks and H&N FTT's right away. I'll take some chrony readings after I get a few more rounds through it. WooHoo!

P.S. Illingworth's is my favorite shop, everything I need is there, and Harvey is a great guy to deal with. I've purchased thousands of pellets, parts, and three rifles from them now. Great service everytime.

Sorry, no camera. Keep spending all my money on guns and ammo!

I should have pics of my stuff sooner than later, if nothing else I'll take some conventional photos and have them put on CD, no scanner either!
A digital camera was one of the things I considered over the 50s, but we all no were my priorities are I think!
Soon dagnammit, soon.

Congrats Mulby! 8) 8) 8)
It should be the perfect springer, not to heavy and not too light, just right.
I am still waiting on mine.

Thanks ETA,

I was shooting it this afternoon and thinking; If I could have only one springer this would likely be the one. It's like an HW30s on steroids, and it still shoots with such good manners. I've only got about 100rnds through it so far, but it is averaging about 755fps with JSB Exacts and the pellets keep going through the same hole. Is it a 50s you're waiting for? I'm pretty sure Illingworth's has a coupe in each caliber, and at a good price to.
Thanks again to Ramjet who gave great advice about the 50s that helped me decide on the rifle.

ETA,

When I bought my HW50S from Illingworth's about a month ago he had ten .177cal FAC versions left.He even asked what kind of stock I wanted, darker or lighter! So he went through the pile and found me the darkest one he could find as per my request, all and all great people to deal with!!BTW glad you like your HW50S Mulby, what can I say other then I told you so

You sure did Ramjet, and I can't thank you enough. Otherwise I would have gone on not knowing how great the rifle is. It really is in the perfect power range, especially for it's size and weight. Hopefully we get a few warmer days so I can try it out at more than 35' without freezing my arse off!
Isn't Harvey a great guy? Gonna have some more fun in the spring when I get a .22 barrel and linkage for my HW90, thought about going .25 but the ammo is to scarse. Excuse me...gotta go shoot the 50s one more time before the kids are asleep.

Yes,Harvey knows his stuff!!Make sure to try some H@N Field Target Trophy's (Beeman FTS) when you rebarrel your HW90 to a .22cal,most of the RX/HW90's out there shoot them very well in that caliber.

Mine is a Non-Pal HW50s in .177cal. :D Don't want any strings attached to it when I past it down to my kids or grand kids.
The order was placed to Illingsworth three month ago. It is presently on a boat from Germany in the middle of the Atlantic ocean. Doesn't look like it is going to arrive before Christmas.

I'm sorry to hear that ETA, but I think Ramjet will agree that it is surely worth the wait! I'm still waiting for the Exact Heavies to come in. Those manufacturers and distributors can sometimes find there way under your skin.
I asked Harvey yesterday if he thought sending the companies a freindly email reminder that their products are in high demand in Canada would help. He said that it would likely only p!$$ them off and slow things down further. So I think I'll just keep my mouth shut, and enjoy what I do have, and worry about the rest later.
