Almost 50 ft pounds from my 2240...

#1 Post by supersundance »

Been working on another 9mm 2240 hybrid and finally had the time to secure the valve properly so i could get some decent air pressure in it. A fellow on this forum rifled the barrel for me and made the breech. He had some probs getting a perfect 9mm bore i.d so this one is a bit oversized.

Today with a 102 grain bullet i cast myself it shot 462fps for 48.3 ft pounds with a 58 grain dae sung it shot 506fps for 32.9 ft pounds the dea sunds are a bit loose in the bore so i,m loosing power with them as my cast fit ones are a bit tighter. Once i find some good tube i know that will fix the looseness. both of those numbers were from 1500psi of air, but i plan to run helium to jack the power of this gun.

I haven,t even tuned it yet i just threw in some old springs i,ve used before so theres much to be had from just that will keep you guys posted and feel free to ask questions. heres a few pics to keep ya goin.

The gun will be stocked and scoped but haven,t got around to it yet. I have more 9mm pellets showing up tommorrow so i may do some tuning on it and see what it will do...

Now that's cool! What does it sound like when it's fired? How much power are you going for?

Not bad at all for a sub 500fps air pistol !! It must be quite loud at that power level ...but plenty powerful for even coyote sized game .
what kind of groups are you getting ..?

The power i was hoping for is about 700 fps with a 58 grainer but like i said they are kinda loose in the barrel. helium will give me a big kick in power but i haven,t got any yet. my last 2240 i ran and tuned was running off 2100 psi and would shoot a 16.4 jsb at 1040 fps and even down to 1300psi or so it was in the 900,s

The gun is pretty loud right now but not as loud as my old pcp 2240 (yet) i sot light .22 pells thru a shhhh devie and you could hear the supersonic crack, put a regular pel back in and shhhhh.

Haven,t shot groups yet as i only had 14 102 grainers from my last 9mm and i sold my mold and melter and i only had 2 store bought 58 grainers but tommorrow i have 3 tins of 58 grainers showing up so i can get into some real data.

Lets just say i was useing a oshawa phone book for my backstop behind the chrony and shot thru it and the wall :)

I need to stick one of my .22 cal barrels on to see how i,m doing compared to my last hybrid so then i,ll know how far i,m off. also the gun will be hushed a bit once set-up and it will have a stock. just couldn,t wait to post some info on it...

I,m running a crosman 2260 tube for now but i,m prety sure they use 7/8 seamless tube good for 2800 not considering the threaded front area as threads take pressure rating away from a vessel.

I if i have the chance will hydro test the gun this weekend to see what its safe for as i always wanted to see how much a crosman tube can handle. i hydroed my last gun to 4200 psi to be safe at 3000.

The gun has the stock valve retainer plus 2 more (one on each side) with the head of the cap screw sitting roughly 50/50 on valve/tube for strenth if you start putting big presures into a tube that runs bulk fill you can loose your face when the valve flys out the back along with the hammer.

My machinist buddy roy made me the custom front cap and custom valve front and rear cap, the front cap screws into a stock 22xx tube and the valve front was extended and o-ringed to pass the front grip screw and seal the tube. All fittings are 1/8 inch npt for gauges fil ports.

The on pic show a modified stock valve front in relation to my valve front, the other shows the valve front and front cap.

. i'd like to see what you can get outa that gun . the best i can get so far is 58fp that's with the 60gr at 2000psi . if you get up to 3000psi it should fn fly . the 60gr pellets are all pretty different . some tins are realy bad and some are good . quality control for the 9mm pellets is very low . goodluck w/ you shooting :-)
