Okay so what happens if you say "oh, wait I got a couple a BB guns here"? Do they just say "okay, have a nice day" or do you have to pay stuff, and sign stuff, and all that crap?Suprmatic wrote:You are legally required to declare any gun at customs - cheapie BB gun or not. If you had been pulled over and searched after declining to declare your BB guns, your father would have been charged with trafficking in illegal firearms ! Yup, in that instant, having violated a federal statute, your BB gun becomes a "firearm" in the eyes of the authorities. In addition to having your guns confiscated, your father could have faced confiscation of his car, heavy fines, and/or prison time. Definitely NOT worth it for a couple $17.00 BB guns. Your dad gambled and won this time, but next time he may not be so lucky.link_dc wrote:nope they didnt check anything, they just waved us throughpapaburger wrote: Did the Canadian side check for it when you bring them back ? They will pull you over and have a look at the guns. If the guns are over 500 FPS, you will have to produce your PAL, if under 500 FPS, no hassle. Depending upon the value of the guns, they may charge you GST on the CDN dollar value of the guns - this is at the discretion of the person you are dealing with - but generally if under $100.00 CDN they don't charge the tax.
It really is not a big hassle, when you consider the alternative - fines, imprisonment, confiscation of your property, criminal record, etc.
If you do feel compelled to smuggle a gun through Canada Customs, at least have the smarts NOT to brag about it on a forum such as this, especially when our government is out there looking for any excuse to take away our guns.
