Quest?
Hi, this is my first post, so be easy on me hehe. Well, the only airgun i have right now is the shanghai model 62 that my dad had when he was a teen, and it has basicly bit the dust. I'm looking for a new gun that is easy to cock, easily modable, can be scoped, and is accurate, or has potential for good accuracy. I really like modifying things, and i am quite mechaniclly inclined. How does the quest 500x compare to the model 62? Also, i was thinking about a 2240 or a 2289, but i dont want to buy co2, or pump a bunch of times, and i'd prefer higher velocity in .177 because i want to shoot at longer ranges, and i dont hunt, plus cheaper pellets. Sorry for all the questions, but If anyone has any input that would be great!

Welcome to the forum millerlight......The Quest500 is a great rifle for the money......from what I've read from others it has potential for modding....As for the 22XX Crosman stuff.... be careful.....very very very addictive .......lots of fun .....Just ask around......

Okay, man, I'm an expert, so listen to me. If you really got your heart set on buying a springer (break barrel type action (see, told you I was an expert. I mean, come on, I know AIRGUN SLANG!)) Okay, joke time over, I'm not an expert. But really, if you want a springer, and your buying it from Ctire or similar, go to home hardware, and get the slavia, like marmot said. Just because Slavias are more qualityish, I find the Quest really cheap.
Hey, don't hate. It releases negative energy, which is bad for everyone.
The 631 is a great rifle for the money. I paid $142 at Home Hardware about 2 years ago.
I got a Quest 500 a couple months back because I like tinkering with these guns. Out of the box the Quest 500 is twangy, has a heavy, long pull trigger (compared to the 631). And a lot less powerfull than the 631.
BUT, after cleaning, polishing, deburring, honing the cylinder, changing the piston, adding a GTX trigger (a true two-stage), shrink-tune on the guide, 0.005" metal shims on the barrel pivot, lube, tar and a little moly.....woooooooo baaabyyy!!! She's a totally different animal!
The GTX trigger is worth the $37 (USD). Goes from about 6 to 1 lb. pull. Nice clean break. The shrink-tune and JM tar totally eliminated the twang. Nice powerfull feeling when you shoot it. Makes the 631 feel anaemic (but still can't beat the 631's buttery smooth cocking action).

The Slavia is a great rifle. I have a 630 and love it. BUT, it has a 14mm dovetail for the scope mounts meaning that you need special mounts that are expensive. I have a Quest as well that came with a scope and after some adjustments shoots and aims well.

Re: Quest?
just because im picky im going to point out that a .22 pellet traveling at 500 fps arcs in exactly the same way as a .177 pellet traveling at 500 fps...millerlight wrote:i was thinking about a 2240 or a 2289, but i dont want to buy co2, or pump a bunch of times, and i'd prefer higher velocity in .177 because i want to shoot at longer ranges, !
your other reasons for choosing .177 are solid though.
I would probably get the Slavia.

Thanks for your input guys, its greatly apreciated. Well, right now i'm leaning towards the Quest, mostley because I love to tinker with things, and i hear you can upgrade it to the 1000x model with just the piston? correct me if i'm wrong lol. Plus they have the quest 500x here for $125. Has anyone dealed with them before? Then I might just get a 2240 for the summer or something later on.
Yes you can upgrade the 500x with the 1000x piston but it wont ever equal a slavia 630 or 631. I have a 631 and it's awesome. after a good lube tune you can have it shooting about 630fps and little more. Maybe not quite as powerful as a 1000x but far more accurate and durable. Those CZ rifles are really tough. By the way when you upgrade the 500x with the 1000x piston it wont actually give you 1000fps you will be lucky if you get 900fps with 7.9 gr pellets. So I guess it's really not that much more powerful than the CZ rifles. But with a good scope on a 631 it will shoot like the devil. I put a good tasco scope on my 631 and from 80 feet I can keep shots inside of a quarter sized circle.
ONE SHOT, ONE KILL
