Disposal/Destruction of Airguns
Disposal/Destruction of Airguns
Okay, I was just wondering; pretend I have an unserviceable airgun that can't be fixed in anyway; what do I do with it do I just throw it away in the garbage? Do I give it to the police? Oh since we're on the topic of disposal; what do you guys do with your used pellets?

First Q: there is no such thing. You can always fix it.Gotrice23 wrote:Okay, I was just wondering; pretend I have an unserviceable airgun that can't be fixed in anyway; what do I do with it do I just throw it away in the garbage? Do I give it to the police?
Second Q: throw it away?!?!?!?! If you get to that stage, PM me, we can exchange info, and you can send them to me.
Third Q: NO N-O NEVER NOT EVER. Keep the police out of it. You can never really tell what they will do. So basicaly what you do is either give them to someone who likes tinkering, unless you do yourself, or just hoard them, you might need the parts (I'm serious).

Hey, don't hate. It releases negative energy, which is bad for everyone.

For lead:
"Call your local environmental, health, or solid waste agency for instructions on proper disposal. "
Not many people know this but lead isnt the only household product you have to watch out for, check out this list of HHW (household hazardous waste)
http://www.epa.gov/epaoswer/non-hw/muncpl/hhw-list.htm
for an airgun, if it is truly unfixable do what sniper said.
But lets be honest here, the landfills are already so full of crap that it wouldnt really make a difference if a few pieces of lead made it in.
Besides, fishing with LEAD sinkers has been going on so long imagine how much lead there is in our water (before filtration)...

I'm with ABshooter on this one. There is never any need to throw away or destroy and airgun when there are so many who like to fix or mod them.
Sell them for parts, trade them, or just give it to someone in the group.

Pellet disposal
I collect my waste pellets, I have an arrangement with the local gun club take them off my hands and they will have them collected with with the multiple tons of spent lead that is collected from their range periodically for recycling.
I save my lead pellets in a 1kg coffee container. When it gets about 3/4 full I drop it off at a local gunshop for a couple of muzzleloader shooters. They are always looking for soft lead and pellet lead works fine for them. I have dropped off about 3 or 4 containers so far and the shop owner makes sure they get it when they drop by. Stop by your local gunshop and ask if they know anyone who needs some free lead. Also, some fishing supply shops might want the lead for sinker casting.
