Canadian Tire - Beeman 1040 Series MODS

#1 Post by yietspingle »

I purchased this .177 break barrel this fall from Canadian Tire. Thinking it was a nice air rifle. What a joke! $169.99 and made in China. I should have researched more, but thought Beeman was a good name.

Anyhow, I rebuilt the trigger with a solid assembly. Not a big fan of stamped out metal. I changed springs, got one from a friend, 1942 machine gun spring that I cut in half. Made a huge difference power wise. Shot more consistantly.
I also made a new spring guide from steel as the original is plastic.

QB78

No I haven't bought a QB78. My next step is to get my FAC so I can buy higher power airguns. I also want to build a few airguns, PCP, springers, multipump in 2006.

Very nice.
What kind of velocity are you getting out of it now?
I especially like the trigger.

Beeman 1040 Velocity after mods

The gun was rated under 500 fps from the store. I bought a Chrony today and tried the gun on it.
606.9, 609.1, 626.7, 622.6, 608.0

So about 100 FPS gain by changing the spring.

I also tried my old Vostok I bought about 16 or 17 years ago. It survived a house fire, that is why the blueing is rusting.
481.5, 476.7, 482.9, 450.5, 472.5, 460.2
Now its time to replace the old leather seal with modern plastics.
