Vintage Crosman 357 Problem

#1 Post by Talontsi96 »

I have a vintage Crosman 357 that was not reassembled properly. The advance mechanism (turret) does not work properly and the little lever rotates in to the gun. I took it apart but can not figure out what prevents this thing from falling in. If i hold the gun with the barrel pointing down the lever works properly and the turret turns. Otherwise the lever falls in and the turret does not turn. Am I missing a piece in there, a spring or something? what prevents this little lever from rotating backwards intot he gun. I hope someone can help me here and possible present me with a link to some plans/pictures of the assembly.

Any info would be greately appreciated.

Thanks,
Paul

just thinking...maybe this would be better suited int eh Mods/Repair section. If so can a mod please transfer this topic to the proper section.

i have the same gun and it had the same problem . the piece that advances the cylinder has a thin piece of plastic that pushes aganst it .this is the thing that breaks off . or bends a thin plastic flat spring . you should be able to crazy glue a thin replacement to the broken point . it is easy to fix , it's about 1.5 cm long and .5 wide a piece of credit card type plastic would work . (if i'm talking about the right problem)
find a parts diagram you'l see whats missing .if you need more help , i have striped mine apart about 1000 times . i think i have some pictures to.

thanks for that link. I checked the exploded view and its the part #357-052 "index finger" that I'm having problems with. The diagram does not show what prevents that index finger from rotating back into the gun. I do not see a spring or anything that forces the part forward. I know this is some easy fix, I just need to know what it is that holds that thing forward.

its pretty hard to explain other then that it kinda floats there under the bar until the gun is together its pretty tricky to set it right but you can do it might take a few trys ,

I know that its tricky and I can assemble the gun and it will work (when I point the barrel down) but I do not see anything in the diagrams or inside the gun that prevents it from rotating back into the gun. If I shake the gun froaward it comes back and sticks out of the slot and works again. What prevents that piece from rotating backward into the gun? Is there a spring that I'm missing or a plastic stop of somekind?

all i know is you balance the indexing finger in the gun in the hole on the bar like i said its tricky there is no spring. what condition is the indexing finger in,...if you get into to many problems send me the gun its 20.00 for labour plus parts and if you distrube the brass bar to many times you will blow the quade seals ,,,

with shipping costs from alberta, your fee and shipping back. Its not worth the hassle. Anyone with a pic of the assembly? I'm not going to ship it anywhere, if I can't figure it out, the gun will just sit in the shelf jusl like it did for the last 5 years.

the only other thing i can tell you then is to study the print or find some one local that knows the gun and can help you locally....crosman should supply better prints for their guns iam sure we can all agree on that,
