Pellets cheaper in Canada

#1 Post by TCooper »

I just noticed how sweet the price is for .22 caliber Beeman FTS in Canada. Up here we don't use the Beeman middleman so the name tag is H&N Field & Target Trophy (same pellet). In the USA the price is $7.95USd per 200 at Straight Shooters and $7.25USd per 200 at Pyramyd Air. Pyramyd also has the H&N label but the price is $16.94USd per 500 (approx $20.15Cdn). At SS you can buy 5 tins and get the 6th tin for free so price will drop to $6.63USd per 200 if you buy 5 tins. At $6.63USd you are still paying $20.00Cdn for 500 pellets. Illingworth Imports has the same pellets for $11.80Cdn per 500 (Canadian business).

The price for .177 caliber Beeman FTS is $9.95 per 500 from Straight Shooters (approx $11.85Cdn). The price is $8.29USd(approx $9.85Cdn) per tin if you buy 5 (get one free) from SS. The price at Illingworth Imports is $9.00Cdn per 500 for the H&N FTT.

I did not take the time to check prices on the Baracuda vs Kodiak (same pellets)... or the Beeman Match vs H&N Match... or the Beeman Silver Bear vs H&N Hollowpoint. All are the same comparisons.

Please don't think I am knocking Straight Shooters business. They are a very reputable American airgun dealer. All I am doing is a simple price comparison.

Hmmm... I just checked prices on some JSB pellets.

The .177 JSB Exact is $8.55USd per 500 at Pyramyd Air and $8.95USd at Straight Shooters. At the buy 5 get one free deal, SS price would be $7.46USd which is about $8.88Cdn. At Illingworth Imports the price is $7.20Cdn per tin.

The .22 caliber JSB Exact is $8.55USd per 250 at Pyramyd Air and $6.95USd at SS. At SS the price works out to be about $6.89Cdn when 5 tins are purchased (get one free). Illingworth Imports has the .22 JSB Exacts for $6.00Cdn per tin of 250 pellets.

I suspect similar results if I compare the JSB wadcutters and pointed pellets.

We are also aware that some air rifles are cheaper in Canada. The very popular Weihrauch HW30S is only $261Cdn up here. In the USA this rifle is called the Beeman R7 and price is typically around $260-$275USd.

All prices are not bad in Canada. If we think outside the "Crosman box" we can sometimes find some good deals. :D

Yeah thats true. The biggest obstacle for most airgunners is the required PAL for any of the better guns but we do get some good deals at times.

Not true. You can buy all Weihrauchs and Dianas in non-PAL versions. Also quite a few other high quality airguns.

If I didn't have my PAL I would still have the same rifles I have now, simply detuned. The thing is that if you buy say for instance an HW50s that is detuned for Canadian non-PAL consumers and then get your PAL later on, it's usually as easy as purchasing the full power spring and then regestering the rifle as non-restricted. Some detuned rifles are very sweet shooters and I know of a few people that ended up takeing out the full power spring and putting back the detuned spring because they like the way it shot with it.

I guess it's about the same as to all of us, if we don't have to we won't buy
stuffs from US because the hassle from Canadian custom.
For pellets, I certainly would only buy it in Canada, unless for the same
price it's made out of gold in US ....lol....

The 500fps airguns are a lot of fun and many shooters don't give credit to what can be done with these airguns. A 500fps pellet will be fine for tin can plinking out to 40 yards. My .22 HW45 will easily hit cans at 40 yards with a mv of only 425fps.

Here are two more good deals in Canada. My favourite pistols!

The Weihrauch HW45 is $375Cdn at D&L Airgun and $400Cdn at Illingworth Imports.
The Beeman P1 (same as HW45) is $345USd at Straight Shooters. This price computes to approx $410Cdn.

The Weihrauch HW40 is $185Cdn at Illingworth Imports and $195Cdn at D&L Airgun.
The Beeman P3 (same as HW40) is $159USd at Straight Shooters. This price computes to approx $189Cdn.

Once again, please don't think I am knocking Straight Shooters business. They are a very reputable American airgun dealer. All I am doing is a simple price comparison.

Agreed, Illingworth's has everything I need, and if they don't have it in stock they'll get it for me. Harvey is one of the most pleasant people I've every delt with, and the folks at D&L are awesome too!!
I have nothing against US dealers, but I much prefer to deal at home.

If you are going in to get it, get the restricted option also as it is less hassle in the long run and you may decide to buy a handgun in the future.

There is nothing wrong with U.S. prices for anything if you remember that every one of the U.S. businesses without exception...... have a basic goal of providing consumers the largest enventory they can, with pricing selected to enable the business owners and corporate investors to retire comfortably at 30 years age while in the interim eat only the finest cuisine.

Hi Larry,

For many years, on the Airguns Canada forum and other forums, I kept reading complaints about how high Canadian airgun product prices are in comparision to the American prices. I also kept reading about how poor our airgun product selection is in Canada. Things have finally changed somewhat. We now have a great selection of products and pricing that keeps us shopping domestically. Hopefully the market stays strong enough to keep this sport alive in Canada and keep our dedicated business owners happy.
