QB-57, Sunny you NEED to import this!!!!!!

#1 Post by Marmot »

I was browsing the "yellow forum" and the latest craze south of the border is the QB-57 bullpup, similar to the XS-B9 that is sold in Canada but single shot (yay! no jammed pellets) and it has a wood stock AND...wait for it...it's available in .22 caliber with muzzle velocities just a hair under the PAL threshhold.

Seriously Sunny, get cracking.

I read on CAF that Sunny is no longer in business. His business has been taken over by another company.

That is a nice looking gun. I wonder if it is legal in Canada with that bullpup stock :?: I believe that bullpups are illegal with regular fire arms. :?

Bullpups themselves are not illegal, but bullpup stocks are. Confused yet?

According to the law, a firearm in Bullpup configuration is legal so long as the action, when removed from the stock, cannot fire live ammunition. In short, it has to be an integral part of the gun. However, if the action can be removed from the stock and still fire live ammunition, then the other part is classified as a "bullpup stock"and is deemed illegal.

So you can technically own a FAMAS or Steyr rifle (if you have the permits required) but you can't buy a Bullpup conversion kit for your Ruger 10/22. :?

Besides, the QB-57 (in .22 at least) does not develop the FPS to be classified as a firearm. The XS-B9 is legal for sale here, and it's essentially the same gun except for the plastic stock and multi-shot clip. Even if it did develop more than 500 FPS, I think it would still be kosher as long as you had your PAL because the action is an integral part of the stock.

Hi Marmot,

Is the bullpup stock illegal or is the assembled rifle illegal if it measures less than 26"? I have a friend who owns a bullpup stock for his 10/22 and was asking if it was legal to assemble.

Do you have a Criminal Code reference for the bullpup information? I spent about 45 minutes searching and could not find anything. It must be there somewhere... or is it some other piece of legislation that's not in the Firearms Act?

http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/C-46/42061.html

Thanks,
Todd

Todd, here you go. http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/C-46/SOR-9 ... #rid-83008
PART 4
PROHIBITED DEVICES
(...)
2. Any rifle, shotgun or carbine stock of the type known as the "bull-pup" design, being a stock that, when combined with a firearm, reduces the overall length of the firearm such that a substantial part of the reloading action or the magazine-well is located behind the trigger of the firearm when it is held in the normal firing position.
(Bold is mine) This means that a bullpup firearm whose stock is necessary for the firing of ammunition is legal but restricted. What's illegal is the bullpup stock. It's all very confusing, and there are a lot of pissed-off Walther G22 owners out there who bought their guns under the (correct, at the time) assumption that they were completely legal, only to have the government change its mind several years later and order them to submit their guns for destruction as prohibited firearms.

This Gun is made by ShangHai airgun factory and its not BAM/Xisico products. There are some distributors in the U.S carries this model. I don't think i can import those since we are different companies.
