Help with 2289 and 1377

#1 Post by canshooter »

Both my guns were working optimally but suddenly neither is getting any compression. I have changed the valve seals inside and outer, I have put in new valve springs, I have installed new pump cups. I dont know where the air is going in the 1377 but when you fire it it has all the vigour of a sparrow fart. The 2289 valve seems to be leaking air thru the port and out of the barrel. Is it possible that the valves are pooched? I know that you guys have a wealth of info between you so I am hoping to take advantage of this. Its pretty depressing because both guns were rocking after the power mods that I had done and the steel breech made the 2289 very fine indeed.

did you try pumping some lube through the gun? Maybe the seals need to absorb a bit of lube to swell up a bit.

Yes I lubed everything lightly as I reassembled using SW30-ND motor oil and I also dripeed a couple of drips on the pump cup. It didnt help. I had been using Hoppe's "9" which came in an airgun cleaning kit. Using this product I get a lot of black gunk inside my valves and I was thinking that perhaps it is eating at the seals and pump cup over time and creating this black crud.

Should I bite the bullet so to speak and order a couple of new valves?

if air is pissing out the barrel then your valve stem is shot just replace the valve stem and you should be back to normal again ...
