TCooper.... interesting idea(pen ball sizing.)

#1 Post by LarryS »

The general concept is interesting. It would be superior to a half baked notion I had of using a sizing screen.

So I need to find a clear substance(to see through), and a gradual inside taper like a cone for .22's or make a square or round funnel with a viewing slot if the material is opaque.

The only real problem I envision is.... the Lobo's are far from perfectly round and could wedge high from a protuberance when in fact the main body is much smaller in diameter. At present I glance at the balls before shooting Lobo's to note unusually wide flat spots(many balls have that), and try to note unusually high "lumps". For this reason I do a short roll test on a flat surface afterward looking for sudden wobbling from these gross defects before actually loading them in the rifle.

The Graphites and Copper Clads would lend themselves to your idea MUCH better. I feel from what I have seen and measured to date, that the graphites would be the only ones I would need to sort with your pen trick. Their tolerances are a bit wider than the Coppers, and some of the Graphites are edging the 5.5mm minimum or very slightly below.

If I didn't have to spray my fruit trees today I could have shot some balls......but a break in the rain necessitated this priority. And then spouse insisted on going out to dinner. She is not aware how much more important shooting balls is to eating...... Maybe tomorrow...... -LarryS
