The reason some of the Lobo's shoot better groups than the Graphites is simple..... The Lobo's are highly irregular. Where a ball measures(in one direction) too small for the bore, the same ball has a high side too. This is easily seen also.
On shooting them, the ball likely rotates(tumbles) in its travel through the barrel and at some point the high side makes contact with the lands and the ball begins acquiring spin and better seating. The problem here is WHERE in the barrel the best seating takes place..... if it occurs midway or near the end of the barrel a low velocity, wide group will occur. If the lands seating occurs early in the bore, like near the chamber..... the shot will be more accurate.
This is (my opinion) of why sometimes the Lobo's will hit dead center in a target and at other times be out a couple of inches or more even at 50 feet....
All of this is heading back to SQUARE ONE.... If balls are not really snug, a smooth bore is best. Loose balls in a rifled barrel are totally squirrely.

Addendum to Negative side.....
Since ball selection is very poor, a person has to select a barrel to match the ball size... unlike with pellet shooting where a shooter matches the pellet to the barrel.
The search for the tight .22 barrel begins
All your detailed testing is much appreciated. It opened my eyes to the possibilities of ball shooting in airguns and to the requirements for accuracy.
Thanks,
Todd

so i started the day shooting . it was realy sunny which was interesting . at 400f/s you can watch the balls drop completly ,at 500f/s still lots of drop .and i could still see them . 100 feet would be imposable . 30 ft is good ,still hit very accurate . WARNIng some of these ballt at 500f/s will bounce off with alot of energy. i hurd one fly into the air and over my head for what seemed like 2 seconds.
out of about 50 balls i had 4 that would roll out the barrel ,about 5 others that would go in about 2 inchs and stop.
next i tried some at 110ft ,
balls 940 f/s
eun jin 28gr 870f/s
crosman wods 14.5gr 1135 f/s
to my surprise the balls flew very well . the first 2 balls wouldn't fit under a dime completely but close . the other ones flew off more then a dime could cover but close again . (it was windy) i'd have to say the balls fly as well as the crosman pellet .
these balls load so easy i may never use pellets again .(in .22cal)
i'm getting a bunch of different balls soon ,i'd like to see if the tighter fit will help ,i don't think it will .

JezX you are shooting the worlds worse balls..... The Lobo's I sent.
You will find the Copper Clads to be TOTALLY different without any comparison to the Lobo's. Dead on accuracy with your variety of guns.
On the Graphites.... They will be "THE VERY BEST" for you in accuracy because IF THEY FIT SOME OF YOUR BARRELS TIGHT...... their uniform sizing will outdo even the Coppers!.
Guaranteed!.....
I only wish my barrel could seat those precision Graphites!!!!!! You saw what the coppers could do with my target picture.... the more precision graphites at the same weight would have done even better. Likely holding to a quarter sized group at 60 meters, with a similar velocity of 588 FPS.
With the higher penetration of balls in the bar of soap tests.... the air is just another medium.... Balls should out range any pellet made in long distance shooting because ball tumbling is not a significant factor compared to the tumbling of a pellet when it looses spin and starts to turn sideways and then winds up nose diving & flopping around on the ground dead.... meanwhile the ball continues because there is no sudden or significant change in ITS B/C. It will continue to go until it reaches the maximum distance the velocity and angle allows.
So let it be written...... So let it be done. -LarryS
