(LINK_DC YOU SHOULD READ THIS) Quest 500->Quest 1000 Info

#1 Post by sammy »

Link_dc.

Quest 500 to Quest 1000 Requirements

You essentially need:
1. The Quest 100 piston
2. A stronger spring
3. Essential lubricants

Call Crossman Canada @ (705)749-0206 and order these 2 parts:
(A). C1K77-003 QUEST 1000 PISTON
(B)C1K77-002 PISTON SEAL

Now for the spring you have 2 options:

Option 1. Get a stronger Tarantula recommended spring from http://www.airguns.citymax.com/catalog/ ... /43410.htm

Option 2. Get the Crossman brand from Crossman and the part # for that is:
C5K77-010 PISTON SPRING

They will not ask any questions as to the application. I received mine within 2 days of ordering. The taratula spring and the lubricants would take some time as it is coming from the US - as expected

Essential Lubricants (if you don't have any)

Get it from th same folks as the Tarantula Spring
Moly Paste
http://www.airguns.citymax.com/catalog/ ... /42989.htm

Large velocity Tar
http://www.airguns.citymax.com/catalog/ ... 172170.htm

As for me, I got the piston and seal from crossman; spring and lubricants from James Maccari.

Here are some links to get you going on the Quest 500 upgrade

http://www.airgunforum.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?t=124
http://www.airgunforum.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?t=37

Hope that helps you - stay positive :) . Many folks have done this mod and are happy with the result. I have my Quest 500 dismantled on the table and waiting for stuff to arrive (my first mod) .

I am very much new to the sport, and what I have found is that I read up on the posts that folks make here and trust them as I am now part of the commuity. I ofcourse do my due deligence before I go ahead with any mods.

Sam.

You don't need a stronger spring. The Quest 1000 and 500 have the same spring the shorter piston in the Quest 1000 just allows for more swept volume and the spring to be compressed more. Allowing for more ooomph.

Fair enough comment.

I wanted to throw in there if, after he reads all the links provided decides he wants a stronger spring - he would all the info in one place.

For that matter, if the seal is good he does not need to order that either - but for $6 I would not bat an eye.

My .02 cents

But that tarantula spring you recommeded would probably be even better than the original spring creating even more power. But if the coil spacings aren't roughly the same like if they are too wide then the spring can't be compressed as much and you might even lose power because the piston wouldn't be able to come back as far as with the original spring in it.

The trantula springs come with the required spacers - I think. If not Canadian Tire is always there.

I forgot about spacers. So I suppose it would work. Is the tarantula spring a pretty strong one? I have never ordered from Maccari.

Nor have I my friend. He and his products are spoken well of in the airgun community in general - not just on this forum.

Like I said I do my due deligence and trust the opinions of our members here. So far I have not been dissapointed or incurred any loss.

you could cut down the piston to proper size, very strong stuff tho.
but i think if you use the origonal piston and cut it down, there is a lot more kick to the gun
kill it with fire

Thats true because you could cut it shorter than the Quest 1000 piston so that there is even more volume.
