Elastic powered airguns looking much like old flinlocks date back to the late 18th century. The Bullseye shot pistols used elastic bands to catapult lead shot at low velocities. Then there was the Mega-Dart elastic powered dart gun. And lets not forget the Ballista - kind of an elastic powered "crossbow". Probably others that I can't recall at the moment. It's all been done.

In answer to your original question, there will no doubt be an interest - whether or not they will be allowed by the powers that be will be quite another story. If the trend toward airgun manufacture continues the way it has been going, it is quite likely that you will still have the cheapies, but not many of the current economy class guns will survive IMO. They just arent made to last. The higher end stuff will carry right on becuse it is built to last.

My oldest airgun dates to 1868. It still has the original mainspring in it, but it is very tired. 10M groups are respectable, and it is a bit fragile from over a century of abuse, so I have no intention of respringing it. My 1906 Jeffries Pattern BSA is an excellent shooter. It was this 1906 model that an englishman used to set a (world?) record of 80 consecutive bullseyes, back in 1907. I think my gun would be capable of doing the same, even at 100 years old. (not me though - lol).

Well I guess that answers my question. Yes airguns will still be around. I wonder if the red ryders made today will be collectible in 30 years from now like the old ones are today. I guess only time will tell. We gotta wait 30 years lol.

Yes I have heard about those old 16th century airguns. Trhey were probably even aorund before then. I would like to get a replica of the air rifle used in the Louis and Clark expedition. Although it would cost a lot of money.
