Which air pistol?

#1 Post by silverwin »

Just going to drop by my local Canadian Tire to pick up a pistol. Wondering which one is the best overall.
Here are the choices:

Walther Night Hawk
Walther CP Sports Kit
Crossman 2240
Crossman Repeater 1008
Marksman 2004 Pneumatic
Marksman 2000k Kit

Could you guys like rank them as well if you could?
Thanks

Crosman 2240 is good if you want to get into modding.
Marksman 2004 has horrible quality control, some of the fall apart, and some are good.
Marksman 2000k?? Don't waste your money.
I think the 1008 is a pretty good gun, but i've never had one...

Best for what?

I have a CP sport. It's fun if you like to plink. Don't expect any real accuracy with the 4" (or is it 5) barrel and stiff (I hear around. . .) 9 lb trigger. With velocity down in the mid 300s and no way to boost it, you cannot hunt with a CP Sport. Buy extra rotary magazines for it (not available at Ukranian Tire).

Walther nighthawk is a CPSport with a dress up kit.

I have a Marksman 2004. It's fun too. Nice light trigger, freaky scary accurate. But I hear there are Quality Control issues. There are only 4 places that I can see that it can leak from and they are all sealed with o-rings. If you can't change an o-ring once in a while, don't buy it (or buy it and when it breaks, sell it to me for $20 shipped) :P

I have a 2240, well, it used to be a 2240, now its got a lot of 2289 parts. It's fairly accurate. Honestly it's more fun to tinker with than it is to shoot (and it's fun to shoot). This would be your choice if you wanted something to hunt with.

Hi there Silverwin... My first airgun was the Walther Night Hawk ( hence my login name) and it is a fun gun to have. The Crossman 2240 would be the next best one to have (good beginner gun for small game hunt). As for the rest my suggestion is to try first the 2 above. I am not too crazy about the Crossman Repeater 1008... you would be better off with the Crossman C40 (all metal construction) which LeBaron still has for approx $100.00

By the way, Lebaron's prices are better than Canadian Tire.

Hope this helps your decision making.

I am new to this forum... (Hi everyone!) but have been an airgun lover for a couple of years now. Later I plan on posting pictures of my models.

Take care,

Welcome, NIGHTHAWK!!! You will have a good time here. Oh, sorry to condradict you on your first post, but I wouldn't call the 2240 a begginer's gun, it's quite good, once it's been modded up a bit...

Hey yeah, the CPSport and Nighthawk have great quailty, but the trigger is hard and there is no double action or either of them. They are fun to play with though. I did a discussion on this before:

Hope this helps.

Hi there ABshooter,

No worries because you are right in saying the Crosman 2240 modified is more than a beginner's gun. But out of the box from Canadian Tire with no mods, i think it could be considered a beginner's Hunting gun....

I have one modified... let just say "WOW!"

Take care,

Hi there Parker_101,

I own the following airguns;

Walther CP99 - very good trigger and feel. both SA and DA
Walther PPK - most realistic gun with blowback
Walther Nighthawk - hard trigger but excellent attachments
Berretta 92FS - excellent trigger, power (400 - 450 fps), and exact feel and wait of the real thing
Skiff A-3000 - bad trigger pull (approx 8lbs) but best magazine - 28 rounds. Great feel when holding and excellent power (450 fps average)

All of the above have good accuracy within a 10m range except for the PPK since it is a BB gun. But it is a fun unit to fire.

With regards to the power rating, I am rating them by all the reviews I have read. I plan to purchase a cronograph on the next Lebaron "No Tax" sale which should happen in March during the Sportman's Show this year. There is a great book on airguns by James E. House called "CO2 Pistols & Rifles". In this book, Mr. House reviews most of the guns I mentioned and does a power measurement on them except for the Skiff A-3000. This unit I read reviews from people claiming approx 450fps and since I can blast empty "coffee jars" with this gun, I would have to agree with the reviewers>

Hope this helps.

Take care,
