Quest 500 (1000mod) vs RM422

#1 Post by razpizdiay »

hey guys,

i am getting a little bored with my co2 and pump rifles. So i want to get a decent springer, without ordering anything from the web. i have a RM422, that chrony's at 420fps with 14.3gr pellets.

i was just thinking what is a better choice:

fixing up my RM422 to shoot at 500-600fps (got some info from "Sniper" and "RM422")
or
buying a Quest 500 and modding the piston

i am not looking for a velocity gun, for that i have my 2289 and 2250. so please dont start discussing the differences of 7.9gr pellet at 900fps and 14.3 pellet at 600fps. i just want an accurate, reliable, comfortable springer that i will be more than happy to shoot about 50 times every weekend.

by the way, i have a friend who is REALLY interested in my RM422, so i can sell it to him (i would guess $100) and buy a quest for $20 more from lebaron, if they still carry them. if not, i will have to buy it from canadian tire for $200... :-(

thanks.

Although I have never owned an RM422, I did own a Quest 500x for about a month, and I can tell you to get the RM422 right now, since you're not going for velocity.

Hey, don't hate. It releases negative energy, which is bad for everyone.

Do not sell your RM422. It's much better than the Quest!!!! If you are not looking for a velocity gun then keep your RM422. I'm still in the middle of re-building my RM422 and as I told you when I PMed you I have my RM422 shooting at close to 600fps. I just have to wait till I get the Diana 24 piston head and it will be shooting better than a Quest. The Quest is hold sensitive where the RM422 is not. The RM422 is more accurate too. I can plink with mine on walnuts out to 30 yards with the iron sights.

i know that the RM422 is an amazing rifle. it was my first airgun when i came to canada. plus it was a HUGE step up from what i had in my home country, which was my dads (30 years old or so) Baikal IJ-38...

i am just a little dissapointed with its barrel length... i mean it is only 10-1/2" ... that is less than a backpacker ! plus i am little concerned with the number of grooves the RM's rifling has, its SO many, its hard to count !

In my opinion the more grooves in the rifling the better. Becuase that increases accuracy. What I'm about to say may not make sense but here it goes. I find that the RM422 is a well made rifle that breaks down pretty fast. If someone can re-word that for me please do.lol. But please don't sell your RM422. As soon as you put the Quest spring in you can already notice a difference. And when I get the Diana24 piston head it will be even better.
