Any mods for Webley Hurricanes?

#1 Post by archer-ca »

Hey All!

I have a Webley Hurricane that I've been eyeing to spruce up. Aside from trying to make a set of grips is there anything else I could do to enhance this springer? Haven't seen anything out there on the net about it.

May have seen some site that sold stiffer piston springs but can't find it anymore. Aside fro polishing the trigger sear and using moly lube I'm tapped out.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. 8) Anyone with pics of their Hurricane or Tempest don't be shy.

if you know what you are doing you can drill out the exaust port a bit . not sure that a heavier spring will be good . lot of money to gain a few f/s .what is it shooting (f/s gr pellet) ?

I have tinkered with several Tempest and Hurricane pistols. They are the same powerplant but the Hurricane has the tail end on the frame, better rear sight, and a short barrel shroud/extension.

I usually shorten the trigger return spring to lighten the pull. On a couple of pistols I shimmed the sear engagement and this helps trigger feel but then the safety doesn't work.

Not much can be done for power.

Here is a bit of info I put together

Thanks for the links, Airgunfun. Nice write up but not much in terms of mods.

I'm shooting a bunch of different pellets and don't a chrony to measure speed. All I know is I can bore through a soda can easily. :P

I think I read somewhere that there's a 500 fps version but of course the Canadian version is tuned down. Hence the replacement spring that was offered on some website. Can't find it now.

Oh well, I guess it will be a set of grips. make it "Dressed tO Kill"

Thanks for the replies, Folks!

Hi Norman,

The Tempest and Hurricane are not detuned for Canada. The velocities that I stated on my web site are typical for these American and Canadian Webley spring pistols. Beeman's version is no different than the non-Beeman imported version (Webley label).

As I mentioned in my review, the power stroke is too short to benefit from more spring tension. The experiment that was described in my review was a failure, even though the spring tension and cocking effort were very high. No added velocity. The Tempest/Hurricane are what they are.

The Weihrauch HW45 is another great springer air pistol. More energy output than the Temp/Hurricane.
