Unjamming a barrel??

OK, I fixed it. What I did was put in a vise, dump some canola oil down the barrel. I had bought dowel that fit very nicely I put it in the barrel and tapped it with a hammer. It came out no problem. My question is: could wood scratch or damage a barrel?

No.
But if for some reason you had something else in the barrel, like sand or metal filings then it could scratch the barrel when the wood pushed it around.
