The $5 Chrony indoor lighting system
Well guys as promised in the Chrony vs. Audacity thread, I'm going to show you my latest easy and cheap solution in the Chrony indoor shooting quest.
What you'll need:
1. Chrony
2. 2 night lights with switch $1each at Dollar Store
3. 2 extension cords $1 each at the Dollar Store
4. Clear tape (I used packing tape)
You tape the two night lights to the Chrony difusers (center) and plug the two extension cords to each night light. Plug one extension cord into the other and then plug the free one into the outlet. Turn your night lights on. Shoot through the Chrony with dim lights or no other lights in the room. Vuala...total Cost under $5...Actally it was $4 plus taxes since I had the clear packing tape in the house. This system seems to work perfectly when the room is quite dim or perfectly dark.
Now for the pics....
The stuff needed:
Night lights taped to the Difusers:
The system connected and ready to go:
The results:
I hope this will help someone...

Did some more testing this morning. The system seems seems to work quite well the way it is but only in a dark room. When I tried it this morning I actually got some errors appearing on some shots due to some daylight peaking in (I gues). I had some night lights that appeared a bit brigther than the ones I picked up for the Chrony so I switched the bulbs for the brighter ones. It works better now but still in a dark room. I will see if I can get higher wattage bulbs tonight or over the weekend. I'm sure it will work a lot better in even not so dark rooms with brighter bulbs. It may cost a little more than $5 to get this little project finished to near perfection depending on the cost of the higher wattage bulbs. I believe the actual Chrony lights built by the Chrony manufacturer are 40 watts each. I doubt that I will be able to find 40 watt night light bulbts but I'll try to find ones that are as bright as possible.

Thanks for that input Sniper. Thats what I thought. Do you ever get any errors popping up while using the F! Chrony Light kit?
I'm hoping to get my lighting kit to work just as well but for CHEEEP CHEEEP CHEEEP!!!! So far so good. Wish me luck...
On a side note: I need ot find someone local with a Chrony. I still think that my Chrony reads lower than actual and would like to confirm the readings with a seccond Chrony. If there is anyone on these boards in the Edmonton region that has a Chrony a a few minutes of time please speak up.

No, I never get any error from the lighting or the shots, only when I don't line up the barrel with the chrony, it's out of range for the second eye to read. Otherwise works good all the time.Talontsi96 wrote:Thanks for that input Sniper. Thats what I thought. Do you ever get any errors popping up while using the F! Chrony Light kit?

OK. I got the unit working perfectly now. I got a couple 40W bulbs from the dollar store for $1 (for both). I used velcro strips to secure the light fictures (1 strip on Chrony difuser and one on the extension cord back side) and modified the lighting system. Now it works perfectly and best of all it was only $5 total and its completely portable. Here is the latest pic.
