Im about to buy one from the US (I think) but I need to know if its a fiream. I know that the rifle currently shoots under 500fps but that may be due t age. I need to know if its listed as a firearm of not here. I phoned the CFC but they just gave me some BS about know having a list for airguns that are firearms (i know its BS cause aif gotten this kind of info from them before). Theyt took my number and said theyd call me later but I cant wait or Ill loose this deal.

NEED HELP FAST ! Is a Diana Mod. 60 a firearm in Canada?
Ruko once imported the Diana 60 into Canada. I have an old 1985 Ruko pamphlet that shows the 60. Price was $450Cdn back then. Weight of the firearm is 9.9 pounds. The velocity is listed at 175mps. Unfortunately that computes to 574fps (PAL rated).
I'm not sure if the Diana 60 was ever imported into Canada as a detuned model. If the rifle that you are considering is under 500fps then they may let it through without registration or PAL. It would be best if the seller included some velocity data in the package. Maybe get him to put a tag on the trigger that indicates "under 500fps". If this is fact, then you have no worries if it is tested.

Todd

Thanks a lot ofr the info Todd. Thats what I was afraid of. I have a PAL, thats not the problem. The problem is that it takes them so long to register the rifle nowadays (they wont do it by Fax anymore, just mail) that its discouraging to even bring them in. And what can happen to the rifle in the meantime scares me.
I could ask the seler to send me the info (serial number, etc) and apply for the licence and then have him ship it to me next month or something but thats really annoying for both the seller and myself.
sigh

The info on the CFC web site indicates the "manufacturer's specifications" are used to determine if the rifle is PAL rated or not. Testing could be used if there was any doubt/confusion.
The gov't has no obligation to use an American dealer's tested velocity quote. We all know that the gov't messes up and sometimes break their policies. Dealer detuned airguns have entered Canada as non-PAL products but I wouldn't take the chance myself. An official looking document with the Diana logo, make, model #, caliber, serial #, and velocity specs might be enough and it would not be lying if the tests were done. As I said, there are no guarranties it will work.
The sad part of your deal is that the rifle should not be registered. If the spring is weak (<500fps) then it's no different than a detuned Diana or Weihrauch rifle from a Canadian dealer. The only difference is the rifle did not come from the factory with the weaker spring. Too bad our laws did not recognize this. I guess gov't testing would reveal the facts but I wouldn't want them playing with any of my airguns. They are not known to be gentle people.
