Slavia 631 - New spring - Gun won't cock!
Slavia 631 - New spring - Gun won't cock!
I go a new spring from this guy. Some folks here have got the same spring from the same chap.

I installed the spring with AND without the existing spacer in 631 in the piston.
The gun won't cock! Any ideas where to look?
When attempting to cock I bottom out. The new spring is heavily coiled but the the attempted cocking action is not very hard - so I don't think it's the spring.
The original spring guide was used.

The spring is probably binding (when compressed). Too many coils. On my B9, I could only put a spring with two extra coils and that was only because I stroked it. Without stroknig it it would not take any spring that was longer at all. Possibly your gun can only take a marginally longer spring if at all...

if it is in fact binding that will not help. When fully compresed and all coils are in contact with eachother. This dictates the minimum length of the spring. IF that minimum length is longer than your gun has room for, you will get the coils binding and you will not be able to cock the gun. The spring will then have to be cut untill the coils don't bind....webstien wrote:you should try preseting the spring before you install it in the slavia. That should take some length off.
Hi Sammy ,
make sure the piston is the right side up and the notch on the rod is faceing down , also make sure the trigger spring is is in place ...the one that jumps out if you let it dureing dissassembly .
take any spaceing out , delrin or washers from the piston ...if it still wont cock then its binding coilbound and you will have to take a coil or two
off the spring ... bend the last coil down ...grind it square and flat
retemper it and anneal it and polish the end , lube with moly and reassemble.

Frank

Thank you so very much for your tips.
It was indeed the trigger spring that was not allowing cocking action! It was the return spring and the sear engagement I got wrong when I installed the trigger!
All's good now and the 631 has respectable spunk to it! lol!
All of you were right - I had preset the spring which helped lose about 1/4 inch. First attempt the spring was binding near the guide which was not allowing the piston to come back all the way. I incorrectly thought it was bottoming out.
After correcting that, I installed the trigger assembly incorrectly! The forum was down yesterday, and I just got it to work thru trial and error! lol!
Thank you folks.
