#1 Post by upankatz »

Thinking of Quest 500 for next gun purchase....

I just wouldnt mind seeing a list of bad points on this gun so I know what I'd be getting myself into.....

I owned one for a month or so. I didn't like it (However, many people wouldn't part with their Quest for twice the price.)

Bad points
Very bad accuracy with scope.
The rear sight is not as well built or as percision as I would have liked.

Good points:
Very accurate with iron sights.
Nice stock. Looks nice.
Comes with a decent (I said decent, not good) scope.
Tough front sight.
Comes closer to the advertsed velocity than most guns of it's class. With Copperhead Points, it will do abot 465, or so.
Can be modded to about 850 fps.

Conclusion: A nice rifle for plinking, and entry level targeter. Also it is a decent close range hunter. Looks nice. Most people like it, but it just didn't sight me.

Hey, don't hate. It releases negative energy, which is bad for everyone.

Then you should learn and quickly, all you do is line up the dots, circles, or whatever its the same thing.
Also I think he means the scope it comes with.

If the barrel doesn't lock up the same way everytime then the scope isn't much use. The iron sights however are secured to the barrel itself, so even if it locks up differently, the sights are still the same way on the barrel.

Thank you.

I also forgot to mention that it is very hold-sensitive. That means that you must hold it the same way every time, or accuracy slacks off.
To the scope question, no, it's not just the scope it comes with, it's all scopes. The reason for this is the fact that it has plastic bushings/washers and when you cock it and put the barrel back up, it has moved a bit from side to side, and since the scope is mounted on the reciever, it is inaccurate. But the iron sights are on the barrel, it doesn't matter. This problem can be fixed by replacing the plastic with steel washers.

Replacement washers are a cheap fix. Sometimes the pivot bushing needs to be shortened a bit too. These minor modifications are almost free to perform. Not a big issue.

Sounds like another "project" type of airgun then.......

How was the twang on it when fired, does it bounce alot or was it rather smooth?

You're bad.......
Gunny got the B21 springs a couple days ago. Cannot get what you do yet unless it is fueled a bit then I get 1175 real consistent in .177
Have yet to try the .22 with this spring.
Made a new latch spring at 30#s force and groups much better and less vertical change when fueled up :)

Hi Walt ..

#13 Post by Gunrunner »

Sounds like your right on the money with the latch spring, added alittle spacer behind mine and stretched it a bit .. much less movement
Lapped the first half of the barrel the other day the crs. heavies were just to tight and then loose the last half, shooting even better groups now and got around to making some new spring guides to.. its still kicking buttock Walter.
Low 900's with heavies 1050 with Gamo magnums and you know sonic booooms with Daisy points. this is without lubing the pellets ..
Walt did you grind down the outside of the spring on either end a bit the last coils, much better fit into the piston.
That it , thats all for the Quest .. done all I can do and do no more.
In my humble opinion, the Quest is just your bottom end springer, but with some time "over 6 months" of work trial and error. and patience, you end up with something totally different, looking at maybe 20.00 in parts ..
so lets see 139.00 gun shooting as fast as a Gammo 1250 .. Hummm what is the price of those going for ?
My gun did start out as a Quest 500 but now it has become a ECHO 521.
There is 3 in existence I have 2 and my good friend Walter has the other.
