Absolutely true.........but I'm hoping to see that change. Right now it's not so much of an issue with, for instance, us old farts that have PAL for restricted/non-restricted. We do, however, have a lot of young shooters who haven't gone that route yet........but might eventually do so. This is quite a new sport and I expect to see that it will only grow.airgunfun wrote:wow...$1095 is a great price...too bad it's PAL rated....terrible resale value.
The other issue is that we might see (I hope) the registry go away on non-restricteds. If this happens then we might see an actual reversal on the valuation of PAL/NON-PAL gun values wherein a gun under 500fps becomes less desirable than one over 500fps.
Time will tell I guess

PAL/non PAL
Another thing that occurs to me is that we really aren't seeing many offers for sale on PAL rated guns because a lot of these are modded guns that started out as under 500's. Now, in a strictly legal sense, a lot of these are well into PAL territory and the owners are reluctant to advertize the fact that they .......... well.......broke the law. I have, however, bought several guns rated as non-pal that when I stuck them on the chrony were quite clearly within PAL definition. If the restrictions on these change then we might see a lot more of them start to move......... and I see this as very good for the sport. To put it in perspective, there are several million unregistered powder burners at large in this country. Some provinces actually refuse to become part of any legal proceedings in this respect as far as charges for simple possession are concerned. My point is that the vast majority of LEO's could care less about the little pellet gun that produces velocities on the plus side of 500.......considering that they have much more pressing matters to attend to. Unless, of course, the owner of same does something very stupid with the gun at which time the provision, in law, to charge that person exists. Owners though, with 'modded' guns, still have to contend with the 'letter of the law' and find themselves in a position where they would like to 'move' the gun........in order to get another one to play with.......but don't.......because of the concern of the gun 'really' being a PAL gun.
I know from personal experience that a LEO never really thinks, or cares, about the guy that sits in his basement and tinkers with his 22XX. It's a non-issue to that police officer unless, as I explained, the owner gets goofy with the gun........then the owner only has himself to blame for what happens.
Please understand that I comment on the non-interest of the general LEO only in the larger sense. I know that there are stories out there about BUBBA, who had his house raided and all his guns taken, just because he had a BB gun............but I'm stating that IN GENERAl, if the owners do their part, there are very few issues that will take place with the ownership of a non-registered PAL airgun........... and that, in future, if the laws change as hoped, these guns will be able to hit the market and become available to those who can't afford to keep a stable of 15 guns but have to play with them one or two at a time. Please note -I am NOT advocating breaking any law..........merely reflecting on what, apparently, is a common real-life occurence.
Oh my.........apparently it's Sunday and I have a WHOLE lot of time on my hands to blather on..........sorry if I hurt your ears
