Speaking of airshotguns... WTF??

#1 Post by Jester »

Check this out:

The shots that I have crossed off are normal shots from either my diana or my QB. But notice all the other holes and chicken scratches? That is from ONE SHOT! And no, I wasn't trying out the airshotgun idea - it is from ONE PELLET! It is (or was) a Baracuda shot from my Diana 54.

What the hell happened? Did my pellet explode?

After that shot I noticed that my point of impact had shifted about 1" high. I guess the piston slammed pretty hard when the pellet shattered. I wish I had examined the pellet more closely before putting it in, it must have been fractured or something. Has this ever happened to anyone else?[/img]

i've seen it happen with rifle rounds, but this is the first i've seen of a pellet doing that. lol.

what's the average velocity that your diana shoots? how far was the target from you? and what caliber pellet was that?

the pellet could have struck an object on the way to the target (blade of grass, twig, etc), or it could have been a misshaped pellet and the twist rate just ripped it apart. beats me, but it sure would be fun to see what that would do to a crow...heh
not too bad for a 23 year old university student, eh?

The range was 20yards, and it was indoors so the pellet didn't hit anything on the way. My 54 is .177 cal, but I haven't measured the velocity yet (I've ordered a chrony though, hopefully I'll get it in a couple of weeks).

That's pretty cool, if only you could get it to happen when you want
