Is the limited shelf life due to the potential separation of the ingredients? Will it go rancid or gum up?

Probably the stearate.

The Molybdenum Disulphide is definitely inert.
The Silicone Oil base is probably inert.
The Lithium Stearate may have a shelf life limit.
It is produced from Lithium Oxide and Stearic Acid.
Stearic Acids can be either animal fat or vegetable oil based.
Both are, by definition, biodegradeable.
Stearic acid is fairly benign.
Some of the organic acids produced when it biodegrades may be more corrosive.
Dow Corning have a technical query service on their website and could more accurately answer questions re the limited shelf life.

A long shelf life is normally not required of many greases as it is expected that new grease will be regularly added through the Zerck fittings as old grease exudes from the bearing surfaces.
Sealed bearings, however, require a long life grease.

I got both the simple green and the M77 samples , the simple green takes about 5 weeks , the M77 took about 2 weeks ..but confirmed shipment within 24hrs .
The best before date on the samples is 36m from time of production , about a year and change left..they do mention that the product will separate and will need stirring .I have found the best before date on the locktite molly to be 5 yrs and they too mention that it will need to be stirred ( even before the 5 yrs period).

It may be a customs related delay , although october 3rd is over 2 months now..but you never know it may show up after a random "spot check ".
Maggies Email ...does confirm shipment .

I applied 2 months ago and was told I was not eligible. I said it was for automotive use.

Well...duh...I just re-read my own posting above...I did receive a confirmation. I just re-applied for a sample. Instead of firearms, I wrote 'brake assembly'.

Is there a link to a free sample of this stuff too? Just wondering why you posted the link, because I couldn't find any samples on the site.
It looks like this stuff would be good for cleaning and degreasing airgun parts.
