Any reccommendations for a 10M AP for a junior ?

#1 Post by cdf »

Currently the little bugger is using my Morini short 162 , I was wondering about the Benelli kite , the Styer LP2 or the HW 75 . Any ideas are welcome , unfortunatly the little bugger is fast developing good taste , so a real cheapie prolly wont cut it . The Biakal is probably a bit heavy .

How nesesary are shooting jackets for rifle competition ? I have been trying to avoid getting one but it seems inevitable .

Forget the HW 75, as it is a very large gripped pistol, based on the Colt 1911 design. It seems you are looking for another match pistol and the HW75 just will not fit the bill in the long run. If money is not the issue (although sometimes it is), look at the LP2C (Junior) and the Walther LP300 Ultra Light. You can add the Co2 guns in there, but I don't think you or your son will be happy with them based on what you are already shooting. I have held all of the top rated match pistols, with the execption of the Benneli and the Aeron line is ok, but no work of art. The MG line looks ok, but it is an offshoot of Morini so at least the quality will be there. The CZ line is new, but it is one of the heavier pistols but the price might be very reasonable. Remember, the normal weight of a match pistol is in the 1 kg. range and Steyr LP2C and Walther Ultra Light are under it. I don't know who is bringing in the Benelli into Canada, but keep in mind what the top shooters (who can afford them) are using. Steyr and Morini top the bill and if you have one gun that fits you and your son right now, best to keep it the same make and get the full sized one, OR if you really like the shorter action, buy a second identical pistol, but with different tank colours. I made up my mind two years ago that when I got another match pistol, it would be the Steyr LP 10 and keeping to that track led me to pass on some really sweet deals on FWB's, Hammerli's, and Anschutz's. In the long run I am very happy with it and I doubt I would ever be fully happy with any other pistol. I have an Izzy that I have carved the grips on and once fitted to the hand, it is a great pistol to shoot so there is still that avenue to go if all else fails. Carving the grips on one of those pistols didn't even make me break into a sweat as they really need to be fitted, because without doing so, it is like holding onto a sanded piece of 2x4.

To jacket or not to jacket. Question is, how much do you want to improve your score? Go to any big match or even some of the club level matches and jackets and pants are the rule, not the exception. I have fought this myself and what is holding me back is that I only want ONE jacket that I can use for ISSF and FT. Jackets are allowed and I know that my pulse is doing a number on the crosshairs of my scope so after getting the sit harness, the next level of Zen is the jacket. Not sure just how one will do both jobs, but I am looking at getting it custom made so the fellow that is making it will be able to set it up for both disciplines. I thought that I might be able to shoot a 500 without the jacket and after a season of shooting my Steyr FT turned down to ISSF levels, it seems that I have a lot more work to do before I can hit that level.
