I Need everyones advice.
I Need everyones advice.
Hey guys (& gals?). I want everyones advice on this. I have been shootinig for quite a few years and have had some good, bad, and ugly airguns. I am looking to buy a new air rifle, but there are a few restrictions to my purchase.
1- it has to be NON PAL, but still over 300 fps. Something which can be purchased in Canada, prefferablly from Canadian retailers, on-line.
2- prefferablly NOT co2, but it's my second option.
3- it has to have a decent wieght and feel
4- budget is not really an option, but keep it in mind
Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Perhaps you could also direct me toward your favorite Canadian retailer. I want to hear what you guys think cause you all sound very professional and educated in the field of airguns. Let me know if there is any other information needed to make a good recommendation. Thanks a million

I wouldn't even consider a gun under 495fps. (but that is just me )
After using both I like 22 cal better. My next purchase will likely be a break barrel 22 as I prefer iron sights to a scope.
I have delt with D&L and K&S in the past and both are excellent suppliers.
My 2 cents

It might help if you specified what you would like to use your new air rifle for. Hunting, plinking or target shooting?
Since you specify, non-PAL and no CO2, you are limitted to springers and multipump pneumatics. You might look into Slavia's, the Crosman 2289 (or add a stock to a 1377) or any of the fine Xisico pumps or springers.

How about a Benjamin??? Good quality........hard hitting..........accurate.
They've got open sights (my choice)........but can be scoped if desired.
BUT..........you've got to like to pump
And..........go for one in 22 no matter what you buy.........you'll never regret the choice.
Cheers - Gus

Take a look at the Weihrauch lineup of springers. From the HW30S to the HW97K, you can't go wrong.
I bought a HW50S from D&L about three weeks ago. Check the Feedback forum.

Piper...there's a great rifle available that would fit your second option ....It's a CO2 non PAL rifle .22CAL, very accurate, good weight, feels and looks just like a powder burner and is priced very competitively at around 150 dollars ....this gun shoots straight and hard.....available from Canadian members of this forum .... .....

i agree with everyone else...once you decide on your rifle, buy it in .22 cal. a .22 has a couple of advantages that i can think off offhand, the first being knock-down. if you ever decide to use your rifle for, say, pest control...a .22 cal pellet will be carrying much more energy than a .177 cal pellet traveling at the same speed. (since you're going to be shooting under 500 fps regardless of your cal, .22 is the better choice here.) also, since a .22 has about twice the mass of a .177 pellet, it will drift less from the wind.
i wish i could offer a fav rifle, but i'm only familiar with CO2. if you do decide to go CO2 though, and if you love to tinker, then anything in the 22xx line would be perfect. i love my 2240!

not too bad for a 23 year old university student, eh?
thanx
Wow. I wasn't sure I'd get responses cause I figured it was a pretty common question but, THANX TO ALL. I now have a little more knowledge of what makes a good airrifle. I'll be honest, I think I may consider a Co2. Thanks guys, I really appreciate the help.

HEres what i would get
A tau 200 or 400 rifle. They are non PAL and very accurate for the price.
They are based on the tau7 design. Ive got one and they are very well built and still preform fairly well in low temps. Im talking the co2 but
the PCP is great in them all. Todd copper was selling some for a friend a while ago if i recall right.

I have the HW97, The HW30s, and the Daisy Avanti 853C. I highly recommend all three, depending upon what your needs are.
The QB78 is apparently a great piece for the cost but I know from experience just how poorly C02 performs in cool weather, yes cool not cold. Last Thanksgiving weekend up at the cottage my 2240 was dropping pellets a foot or more at a distance of about 12-15 yards.
I might be interested in selling my 853C. If you are interested send me a personal message. In fant PM me even if you have any other questions.
