Shipping charges
I have just ordered a crosman quest 500 from a online shop. I filled in the form on the web site and the shipping charge on the web form is $8.99. After I confirmed the order, the customer service person explained to me that the shipping chrage to BC is $27.5, of which $19.9 is Canada post charge for shipping "FIRE-ARM", and $7.5 for oversize (over a meter) charge.
Does $27.5 or shipping sounds right to you ?

I've never heard of an extra charge for a firearm. The price doesn't sound extreme, it all depends on how it's sent. Sent by ExpressPost with insurance plus a signature on an oversized package...it well could be. It also depends on where this shop is located. It ain't cheap to send stuff from Ontario/QC to BC...especially oversized items. Like I wrote above, it depends on how it's sent.

Regular parcel vs. expedited parcel vs. expresspost. Pick your poison...pick your shipping method!!!holey cans wrote:interesting... I was just comparing some prices for an item around the country, I live in bc. one guy on ontario could send it shipped for 12 bucks. a guy in alberta, right beside me, claimed an 18 dollar shipping quote!
seems a bit incongruent to me
Shipping.
You can always go to the Canada Post web site and caculate the shipping charge in reverse. It's darn accurate.
Canada Post does Not have a firearms shipping surcharge. They do have an oversize charge for anything 39" and over in length.
Maybe you should have the sender verify the charges?

Never heard of a firearms charge before. Wholesale Sports and everyone else, including the people who know CanadaPost inside and out all call it a "Dangerous goods" charge. It is actually a law that they have to charge it. Even though the Quest 500 is not a firearm, it still falls under the category of "weapon" which is a dangerous good. Pellets fall under the same category because they are ammuniton, but in my experience, I have yet to be charge a dangerous goods fee on pellets or even centrefire cartridges.
