Considering where most of their products are made, why doesn't anybody call them Chinese Tire?

Yeah, they have many common sizes of the smaller non-metric nitrile O-rings. They are of decent quality, much stronger than you might expect, better than most of their hardware these days...

For valves, tubes, etc. you may want better grade of o-rings like Viton or EPDM.

How do you know what grade an O-Ring is? Does it usually say on the label when you buy them? I bought a kit of 225 last week from Princess Auto and I don't think it says anything about the material on the container.

Thanks

If you build stuff, or fix stuff etc., there's always one place you can get just about any material or piece of hardware available, and that's McMaster-Carr. It's best to get their printed catalog (kinda expensive, and large), but you can do not bad online. Check out their table of properties of O-ring materials. They are quite friendly people and ship to Canada.

If you don't know what material an O-ring is, before using it, consider how hard it is to replace, and what the consequences (dangerous, expensive??) are if it fails.

You can special order o-rings from suppliers. Phone around and ask. I bought Viton in Saskatoon at Bearing and Transmission. One obvious differance is cost. The Viton were$.33 each.

There is also a differance in temp. tolerance above and below 0 degrees. I also would think that o-rings for hydraulics would be a better grade.

Here is a list of the sales offices for AR Thomson. They have an office in Mississauga for the southern Ontario guys.

http://www.arthomson.com/locations.html

I bought HW40 seals from AR Thomson. They had the #009 nitrile o-ring and quad seal in 70 durometer (breech seal). They also had the #117 nitrile o-ring in 90 durometer for the piston seal. They work great.
AR Thomson also has many other types of seal material and a huge selection of sizes.

Seal sizes http://www.arthomson.com/oring_guide.pdf

It looks like they have o-rings in neoprene, viton, teflon, buna, silicone, etc.

For anybody in the Vancouver area willing to come to my shop the odds are I will have most o-rings/seals in stock and if so they can have them,no charge, or will help them find the correct ones if I don't as one of my one of my seal suppliers is two blocks down the road. (ie) the spare rebuild kit that came with my Drozd I had them all. I Remanufacture manual and hydraulic steering systems and so have lots of different types&sizes on hand.
If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.
