Does putting a 2289 barrel on a 2240 make it a 2250?

#1 Post by cfraser »

With the stock too I mean.

Just trying to make a parts list of interesting things to get from Crosman for mods a newb could probably do. I don't even have the 2240 yet, tomorrow. And already I'm planning to chuck the barrel and breech and grips. You guys cost me $$$.

I guess I could use a 2250 barrel band too, wonder if Crosman Canada has those.

Kinda hard to tell stuff from pics and the manual drawings. Some of the 22xx parts look the same, but they have different numbers...without having seen a 2250 hard to compare with 2240.

Pretty much. Although a 2250 has a longer lower tube and a foregrip.

Thanks. I didn't know about the longer lower tube, but I just remembered that it has screw holes to hold the foregrip. Damn. I think I better leave this one for now. I think I would need the foregrip with the longer barrel.

I guess I could always try a longer barrel on the 2289 since it has a foregrip, and try out the 2289 stock barrel on the 2240 without the foregrip to see how I do.

Sorry to change the subject, but anybody know the number (cost?) of a drop-in longer barrel for the 2289 that I can get from Crosman Canada? Something it sounds like I could do, based on my demonstrated ignorance? Thanks.

When I have a few more parts on hand I'll have a better idea and won't ask so may dumb questions. Probably... :D

2260-003 I think. 24" .22 cal barrel for the 2260. Costs about $20 from Crosman.

D&L sells a 2240-2250 upgrade kit.

Yup, that's the right number. Crosman Canada sells it? Did we ever have the 2260 here? I thought not...kinda odd they would have parts.

Anyway, looks like I could do these mods: 2260 barrel to 2289, old 2289 barrel to 2240, both with steel breeches. I only have 4 airguns, but this way I'd have 4 different barrel lengths, a long and short pump, and a long and short CO2. A pump and a CO2 with stocks, a pump and a CO2 pistol, a pump and a CO2 with scope, a pump and a CO2 with open sights. About as good a variety as I can get with just 4... I can see how people end up with a lot of these things.

Yup, sure is. Actually, what helps is they use so many common or similar parts.

You mentioned before somebody modifying a 2289 forearm to be a 2240 foregrip. I might want to do that, since I already upgraded the 2289 forearm I just bought for my 1322 to an RB Grip thing. Hmmm, that part lasted 2 days before an upgrade... Wouldn't mind hearing about what your friend did. I'm putting my old 1399 plastic stock on the 2240 too.

Thing is, for my indoor guns (Mark I and 1322), I'm comfortable with nice wood grips. For my outdoor guns (2289 and 2240) I'm comfortable with plastic. And longer barrels for outdoors.

I should have a few more clues after I do these very basic non-gunsmithing mods. I realise they're newb stuff, but adds to the infobase for the next guy who asks, takes the strain off the guys who are probably tired of answering...

One thing I REALLY don't like about the 2289 is the awful trigger, sure isn't smooth, plus it takes a fair amount of force, more than I think it should. Even much more force than the 1322, which is at least smooth (old 1322, separate cocking). I guess the 2240 will be similar?

I don't suppose there's a .22 barrel I can get that's somewhere between 14" and 24", like 18-20"? Hell of a diff, going from 14 to 24, wouldn't be much of a backpacker anymore. Guess I can put that ANNOYING little stock gizmo from 2289 on the 2240 and use that as the knockdown gun.

I'm asking so many questions so I can order my parts, hopefully have them for next weekend...then ask a whole bunch more questions... :D I hate to have something apart and find out I should have also got this or that too, and have to reassemble the thing half-assed. I'm pretty sure my standard scope mounts won't fit properly with the new breeches (I'm using Cr mounts that are taller) so I'll probably be bitching anyway...and more $$.

the guy who bought my pumparm was actually at my house to pick up a
cake cause my moms a chef and thats her business on the side, and he saw my guns apart on the bench in the garage when he walked in,
and asked about the barrel and pumparm, so i sold him the pumparm
and said helll no u aint taking my barrel, and for the trigger, take apart thw whole grip assembly polish the sear and where the sear touches the trigger, and swap out the spring for a lighter one..... and some triggers may have a left to right wobble in them so just make a bushing to fit inbetween the trigger and the grip frame and itll fix that.and for you wanting a shorter barrel you could always cut it down, but if you say
u r a noob at this sort of things take it to a gunsmith or a metal worker

Thanks for the info Aaron. I think I can do that trigger fix, didn't know it was that simple...I'll have to see what suitable springs I can find.

I played around, and decided I don't want a longer barrel than the 2289/2250 length after all. Might as well get a rifle... That 2240 -> 2250 conversion kit sounds interesting, wish I had known about it when I ordered the 2240 from D&L, would have converted right from the start.

Crosman does sell 2250 and 2260 parts. The woman said they can get most stuff from the U.S. Custom shop too, though I didn't ask about complete "custom" guns.

2240 to 2250 Conversion

#10 Post by cfraser »

Here is a parts list for things that are different on the 2250 than the 2240. You may or may not want all of these, but these should give you an "exact" 2250 from your 2240, re-using as much as possible. Please correct if I missed anything...

1399A001 Stock
151A002 Forestock
2250-019 Barrel
2250-009 Action tube
2250-008 Action tube cap
2250-007 Barrel band
2250-018 Forestock "plate"
151-016 Forestock screws (need 2)
