(EDITED)
I get about 450 fps with Copperhead Wadcutter pellets & 10 easy pumps without moding it.
I got 1640 shots on mine with no problem with the unpopular Crosman 459 mt intermount kit
When i mounted those intermounts on my 2289 ,i sanded the paint where they went & under the mounts itself, then i put some Contact Cement where the were tighten to the barrel.
The scope on it is a Bushnell sportview 3-7x.20mm
I would not put a scope bigger then that on the gun with those intermounts
You can get those 459 MTC intermont kit to put a scope on it from:

which are complete garbage, go for the steel breech, those intermounts
are a waste of money, they wobble, become loose, and are a moajor pain in the buttock. you can call crosman canada to order one if you would like to.

crosman canada - 1 - 705 - 749 - 0206.

I have to agree with Aaron. I would opt for the steel breech kit.

Hey, don't hate. It releases negative energy, which is bad for everyone.

Is it true the 2289 is discontinued for 2006? That's what they said at Crosman today when I was asking about some 2289 parts (parts still available though). Anybody seen an '06 Crosman catalog/list? If it's true, grab one while you can.

I'm sure it can kill a skwirle. Use a hunting or pointed pellet, that'll help.

Quit complaining about his English/spelling/typing skills... Nobody cares!

I have only used a 2289 a few times but it does have plenty of power for squirrel hunting. I didn't shoot any paper targets though so I can't comment on the accuracy.
If you're looking for a non-PAL squirrel hunter that you don't have to mod, I would recomend a QB-78 from sniper. It has just as much power (maybe more?), very accurate, and you don't have to pump 10 times before each shot. The only downside is it's no good for the winter (CO2 doesn't work so well in the cold))

I don't like pumps much, but that's just me.
