50cal action coming up

#1 Post by jezX »

so i got my 50 cal done , close anyway . i still need to sand and finish the stock and do a little polishing on the trigger assembly . and i think it needs to be black , or hot pink . except the wood
over all length is 37 '' from butt to muzzel ,31'' of barrel .
the air cylinder holds 18 cubic '' of air , i haven't tested it but it should hold 4500psi easy . since i can only get 3000psi thats what i'll be tring ,should be lots .
. i have 2 slug and a ball to try in it . that balls
11.4grams =180grain
long slug 24.2 grams =374grains
#2 slug 21grams =323 grain
i have yet to shoot the slugs , i shot one ball and realized i need to NOT shoot in my basment . and that was only at 800psi . i think i'll need a 6'' thick back stop at 3000psi

You gotta sign-in to photobucket.com, upload the image and copy the code under the uploaded picture that starts with [img] and then paste the code into your post.

350 was prolly talking about the one in you posts . it's pretty nice .

i couldent stop myself last night , so.. i did some shooting in my basement . 24' long . it was so loud even at 1200psi ,and the gun gives a good kik not hard , but enough to know there is some power behined it . the 323 gr slugs fit the best . there almost to tight , ( may have to roll them first)
the balls are good just tight . the 373 gr slugs are a bit to small which is ok ,the weight of them needs no drag from the barrl to slow them down .
still havent chrony'd it ,i tried but it seems to not pick it up . i think the air blasting across it messses with the reading.

metal muncher , if you would like the plans i can send you them , i know you build stuff , this gun is pretty easy to do . about 2 weeks of work in my spare time ,and i never missed a day of work . i sure wanted to .

JezX, would like to see those plans if you would share with me.
Would like to know how you do your rifling as well. Very interested in making my own barrel making stuff from the Video by Guy Lautard. Have all the parts rounded up just not built yet. Gun building has precedence so far. :)

i'll draw up some new plans . i can read the ones i have but they should be better .
rifling i do is with a button . easy to build and requires little know how and machining .rotary table or self centering vise is needed with a milling machine .

Thankyou Jez, would sure like to know more about the button rifling process. Do you let the pull rod turn in a bearing then?
You are doing some great stuff!
