Making a 2240 Quieter
Making a 2240 Quieter
Hey I'm new just a question, I have a 2240 and it is LOUD, as I'm sure anyone else who has one can attest to.
Are there any safe ways to make them quieter? I know that a longer barrel and reducing the co2 might make it quieter while retaining the same velocity, but I would rather find a way that will make it so that all I hear is a plink when I hit something.
Any help?

A longer barrel may not reduce the noise that much. A 14" one does to a noticeable extent, but it's still pretty loud. As these things go anyway.
It's considered good practice when using firearms to wear ear protection, and you may be forced to at a club. If you think a sound is loud, then use it. Hearing loss is gradual, so slow you don't usually notice it happening, until one day... You'll have enough problems with it if you live long enough, no point in making it premature or worse.
Don't mean to sound like an old fogey, but I extremely value my hearing. You can use cheap disposable plugs, but I like ear attenuators, much more expensive (but still cheap) that still allow you to hear talking etc. Sound techs and musicians often use those, they can't be seen and you can hear what's going on very clearly just at a much lower level.
A 14.5" barrel is ~$13 from Crosman, the 24" is ~$22, there's nothing in between so you cut and crown the longer one.

Porting the living snot out of the valve, installing the 24" barrel and dropping the input pressure below 600 psi will make a 2240 a lot quieter than stock (while keeping your velocity below 500 fps to avoid the need for registration).
But at that point you might as well scope it and throw a stock on it because it's not a pistol anymore. . .

Yeah. This is way OT, but I found the 2240 with a longer barrel very uncomfortable to my hand. Just enough more forward weight that it hurts the crotch (??) of my hand. Custom grips were even worse. But I fixed that problem. Nobody else seems to complain about it. Anyway, added the stock. That works. Seemed dumb with just a stock and without a foregrip of some type, I *need* to hold it there. So it becomes a 2250 eventually, though that forestock pretty much sucks but it's something. Again, nobody else seems to complain about it. Throw on a $200+ scope when I realise the power this thing now has. A cheap little pistol becomes overall my most expensive airgun. Be warned. But at that point you might as well scope it and throw a stock on it because it's not a pistol anymore. . .
