I finally got the B26! I need help bore cleaning please...

#1 Post by CZ-Sniper »

Hi guys, I finally got my .22 cal Xisico B26 .Home at last.
Very nice rifle.
Before shooting it, I want to make sure that the bore is clean.
Can anybody tell me how to properly clean the bore, without doing any damage to the rifling and the piston seal? I have the Remington Bore-Brite solution, but I think it's too powerful and will damage the seal. Also, I have the Remington cleaning kit (the one with the wooden box); should I use the cleaning rod to clean the bore, or would this damage the rifling?

Please help because I don't want to ruin this beauiful air rifle.

Thank you!

Hi CZ sniper ,
its the common consensus that a pull through with a flannel patch will likely do no damage to the rifleing , goo gone is a great AG cleaner and leaves a nice citrus scent behind .
If you do use a rod ..do so from the breech ...not from the front ( crown )
of the barrel ...the Initial cleaning with goo gone 2 patches followed by 3 dry ones will leave your barrel sparkling.
Please review the b26 as soon as you get some trigger time with it .

Regards ,
Frank

LOL
Thanks Airbuddy. I'll get it from Canadian Tire.

I'm just worried not to damage the seal with the solvent...

Thanks for your help!

Hey Cz-sniper

Heres a link that should help you out if you decide to tear it apart.

For cleaning the barrel I use a braided fishing line. You can tie off the ends into a loop and insert some patch material with goo gone and start pulling away for a nice shiney bore. If its real dirty tie some more loops and pull 2 patches through at the same time.
I use a tiny bit of Millitec-1 oil on a clean patch and to make sure that my bore doesnt rust up on me. I might get one or two smoking shots if that.
I cant see any traces of smoke unlike other lubes or oils.

Did you get the thumbhole version?
Pix damit we need them!

That thing about the cleaning rods: is it just the steel ones I need to be afraid of? I have those Hoppes .22 cleaning kits. The oldest one came with aluminum rods, and I always use that one. (Couldn't believe when they changed to steel, but gotta admit it's lots sturdier for .270 use, was same kit.) Aluminum can't ruin the rifling in an airgun barrel can it? Thanks.

That's interesting about using Goo-Gone. I bought a big bottle of it years ago and never really figured out what it was good for. For the stuff I needed it for, 99% alcohol or Varsol has always worked much better, but then I never needed it for gentle stuff. Now it has a use!!
