#1 Post by peterdulux »

What is the best product to seal threads so co2 doesn't leak?

Pipe Joint Compound made by Permatex never leaks with any thing but messy and a little harder to dissemble later on ,Blue Magic Pipe Thread Compound not as messy easy to dissemble but does not seal as well as Permatex ,Teflon tape easy to use clean but does not seal as well as any of the pipe Compound ,My personal favorite is Masters Metallic Compound i do not use tape with it don't need to will out seal them all ..............

As well as the ones mentioned above there is Loctite 545 thread sealant . I use it on Hydraulic and pneumatic fittings on components in my shop if there is a chance of overspill as it is nonfouling.

What exactly are you trying to seal the threads on?
Most applications involving CO2 usually have an o-ring to seal the joint, and pipe joint sealant is simply redundant.
If the o-ring is not sealing, get to the root of the problem, don't try filling it with pipe joint compound.

Good advice all.

Making the assumption that we're discussing tapered pipe thread...

I've been using ordinary blue loctite. Simple, easy to get and use....and it flat out works. A drop does the trick, snug the fitting, clean off the excess and let it sit overnight before use. Comes apart with hand tools when the need arises.

Fully intend to try the stuff Scruffie uses at some point in time.

Bought an adapter from B&A for a custom made co2 bottle for my 850 and it has been leaking down. Did the soap and water test to see if it was the threads, turns out it's the adapter leaking out from the pin seal.

Must be the same problem I have with the adapter I bought from B&A to refill 88g co2 cartridges, they don't hold either.

That 850 adapter has an o-ring on it - have you checked that to ensure that the o-ring didn't get nicked?
Not trying to be a W/G but even a very tiny, near imperceptible nick will do it.

Never had a problem with my B&A adapter.
