Any Drozd owners here?
Be careful!!
I have one of these Drozds that I got from Airgun Specialties in BC. It's a load of fun. Be very careful doing mods to it though. As soon as the velocity gets above 500 fps it's a prohibited weapon, considered worse than getting caught with an unregistered .44 magnum.
Yes I prefer to keep mine set so it bounces off wood when shot, that way it stays well under the 500 fps. Bulk is cheaper and the longer barrel is more for accuracy. The US videos of the Drozd shooting are between 650 and 700 FPS which is not a legal problem down there. Do the mods but be careful of the power, good measure is the phonebook test if you don't have a chrono. Shoot the phonebook in stock configuration, as it is shipped doing 330 to 400 FPS. If you chose to do the mods and the page penetration increases you are dangerously close to breaking the law. At that point you can either back off the solenoid, or mark the factory setting of the POT under the cover/plug right side turn counterclockwise to decrease velocity. But be careful if you lose the factory solenoid space setting or POT reference the gun will never shoot the same.
Play it safe in public areas, because no matter what this BB gun attracts attention!

Today I spoke to Gerry at GMK Armoury Specialties. He will sell the MP-661K Drozd for $279Cdn plus tax and shipping. His prices on all Baikal-IZH products are quite good.

The DROZD is not full auto. It can be made full auto and shoot 1200rpm, if you get a special mod circuit board. I have one of these boards, but decided not to installed it. Trust me, the stock 600rpm and 6 round burst is plenty fast to empty your 30 shot magazine and CO2. The full 30 shot magazine can be emptied in less than 5 seconds. I find I use it mostly in single shot semi-auto mode or 3 round burst. Full auto and 1200rpm are kind of useless without a large capacity magazine. Maybe when one of these magazine exist, then I might decide to install the circuit board.
Messing with the internals and circuits gain very little and waste CO2. The extended barrel is only way to go if you are looking for velocity gains.

Hmm - if the new circuit board is installed - will the switches do anything? Or will it always be full auto 1200rpm? Any gas freezing problems on full auto?
Is there anyway to modify the board for the 6 round burst setting to do full auto, without affecting fire rate and the 3 round burst and single shot settings?
How hard is it to install a longer barrel, how much does it cost, and where can I get it from?
Anyone have more videos?
Thanks!
Cheers,
Alex

I posted this a couple of days ago about a resource CD for the Drozd...check it out...

Let me guess. :-k
You used rechargeable batteries. [-X
You can't skimp on the batteries. You have to use good old fashioned alkaline AAs to get the voltage up for it to work properly
Six rechargeables will only give you 7.2V. Six alkalines give you 9V.
Don't worry, the alkalines last quite awhile. Longer than you BB or CO2 supply.

Just a suggestion here. Instead of using (assuming) NiMH rechargeable batteries, why don't you try the Pure Energy rechargeable alkaline batteries? I knew someone back in the school days that used that quite a bit. I think the packaging states you get about 25 charges (that's full charge to empty then full charge. All batteries are sold precharged full.) but he had reported an average of about 30-32 charges before the voltage per charge starts to wane on him. I recall him saying he got at most 40 charges off a battery. It may be worth looking into. I have been reading quite a bit into the batteries for a while and apparently the "disposible" alkalines we always throw out can be recharged. The recharging process for the disposible batteries needs to be recharged at a slow rate and from all I've read you get back about 80-85% on a full charge. Seems like a longtime on the recharge for the disposibles but hey, if you have the time and a ton of disposibles on you that have not leaked then it may be worth while to build a slow (like really slow something like 48 hours slow) charger for it or just skip to the rechargeable alkalines.ETA wrote:Let me guess. :-k

The disposible alkalines (if a fresh shipment and not a stable shelfed one) are normally over charged. I tested some batteries I got recently from friends and the voltages all showed about 1.6 - 1.7v. Those dollar store shelved batteries I got somewhere about 1.45 - 1.5v. So with a fresh batch of disposible batteries you'll get 6 x (assuming higher) 1.7v = 10.2v (or 9.6v with 1.6v).
If you have a lithium battery charger you might want to break out the tinfoil and saw off some dowels or pencils or something AA size and some wiring and make dummy batteries and shove a lithum battery in there. In cold temps lithuim works better then the other batteries which get weak and drop in voltage.
Hope that helps some.

Hey Ryan,Wrong Way wrote: I'm not getting anywhere NEAR 500 fps with mine. I can actually watch the bb's leaving the muzzle and heading for the target. Any thoughts?
Did you get your Drozd to rock & roll?
Accuracy is no problem with the Drozd....why? Because there isn't any. The thing is meant to spray...especially with Copperhead or Daisy pellets. Even on single shot, I have trouble sighting in the Tasco Red Dot. But, the gun is a hell alot of fun. I wonder if lead BB shot would give better accuracy?
