When I was a kid I was deeply captivated by this article that I read in the the Guns & Ammo magazine by writer Peter Capstick.
Here's a link to a scan of the article. I'm sure some of you keen airgunners remember this article, but it is still a great read.

It just seemed like such an extremely fun thing to do in one's backyard. I never intended to simulate pretend sniping but the precision of the airgunning that Capstick wrote about appealed to me then, as it still does today.
I've been in love with Feinwerkbau 300's ever since. To me, they will always be one of the finest springer air rifles ever made. From the moment you pick one up and feels its heft, to the way the side lever rachets back with the precision of the Swiss mechanical movement, to the extraordinary satisfying feeling of the recoilless mechanism, it is just plain magic to shoot.
I use a 10-24X scope on a 300RT (Running Target model with thumbhole stock) and with it, I can easily shoot 10 shot groups into penny sized object into targets across the yard (~50ft). And that is with my crappy shooting.
Here's some pics of my 300RT:

That is a really interesting article , my buddies used to do a similer thing inmy basement, not just small targets but putting them behing obstructions.ie: we shot at pop bottle screw tops but put them behing something so that 1/2 to 1/3 was only visable and also open sights due to distance . Really lots of fun.
